Just wondering how to turn the opposite way when sitting on the one side without shifting your weight?

You can do a Jam, where you put your paddle under the front of your canoe and angle the blade at 45 degrees, so that it acts as a rudder turning your canoe left, when you are on the right side. You can google Canoeing Jam, and there are videos. I hope this helps!
