Alice in Borderland came before squid game. Squid game isn't an original concept at all but it seems to be new in the West so it's blown up and became really popular. It's interesting hearing people compare both with the assumption that AIB needs to live up to squid game; when the opposite makes more sense. Both shows are also very different in many ways.

Squid Game has better acting and social commentary. But Alice in Borderland has more interesting, unpredictable games and more mystery yet to be solved around the whole system. Personally, I enjoy Alice in Borderland better.

This has depth too but not on social classes. There's duality between nihilism and existentialism throughout the show. To not spoil anything I'm going to give an example with what's on the show thus far, Arisu, in real life, doesn't do anything useful or productive, his whole life is escapism through video games, he doesn't actually live his life and in the first game we see, his will to survive and to live suddenly skyrocket. When you see the back stories of a lot of characters, they all have this common. It gets deeper as the episodes go on for other reasons but I can't say anything because I can't spoil.

Yup, I agree. I just think that it's not as visible in the writing as it is with Squid Game. But maybe bcs Alice is made to have more season while Squid Game is a one-off. I do enjoy it better though. Squid Game gets reeeallly predictable near the end while Alice remains intriguing.

Arisu is a form of Japanese pronunciation of Alice (Alice in Wonderland), and the bathroom has an analogous form of a rabbit hole that makes Alice move to Wonderland, in the case of Alice in Borderland Arisu moves to Borderland where only silence and misery exist, in contrast to a wonderland full of color and happiness

The Squid Game creators are massive Alice fans. They created SG not as an homage, necessarily, but as you go through AIB you'll see some strong similarities. Having seen both I think Alice is better, though both are great. Enjoy!!

@@random-zz8ut I *think* your date of 2010 is correct, though I looked all this up a while ago. The thing is, AiB came out in 2010, at least in manga form. I know they've been trying to get Squid Game off the ground for a while, I'm just not sure if they had the idea immediately after discovering AiB or if it took a bit of time for the idea to percolate.

SG is popular solely because it's a Kdrama. Majority of movie watchers prefer kdrama than jdrama. That is why AiB is underrated and SG is overrated in my opinion.

Only you as the viewers know there was a life/death situation there. Arisu was calm & 3 of them were still calm when the 1st time they saw the die/live door because they thought its not real game. It was their 1st time there, they didnt think they will die there. They didnt even know whats going on until the 1st person died (the school girl). Chota probably thought its a reality show or something, thats why he just made video with the phone. The only person who knows is only the long hair girl (shibuki) & she already said "you will die if you just spacing out", but they dont really pay attention to her words because theiy were still conffuse.

Because AIB's stressing them out with tons of questions, mysteries, and plot twists. Whereas SG's mysteries are not that twisted at all, like it doesn't have that wow factor, lol. And it doesn't stress them that much that's why they like it more. Lmao. I mean, that was the genre of AIB and it gives justice to it. I haven't seen Squid Game so I can't comment on how good it is. I have, however, seen all of Alice In Borderland and it's an incredible show. Such a well thought out, written and filmed project. It's sort of sad there are only 2 seasons. But I appreciate that they played it out to fruition before ending it. Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did. Great reaction.

I've always been surprised that this game is only considered a three, difficulty-wise. Unless you're very observant and have a good sense of direction/proportion, your odds of getting through every room are extremely slim. It'd be like flipping a coin and getting the same side eight times in a row.

I like both Alice in Borderland and Squid Game but Japanese dramas and Korean dramas are very different in tone I think. A lot of K-dramas, even if they're as dark as Squid Game aren't always as gritty. I tend to like J-dramas more when it comes to genres like this though K-dramas are great with horror. Out of the two, I prefer Alice in Borderland because each time I watch it I end up watching the entire thing in one sitting and I never get tired of it.

There's really no similarities with Squid Games other than there are games that are played to the death. That's it. AiB is animu af, which makes sense since it's a live action adaptation of a manga. So everyone looks attractive and they do amazing physical stunts and it just gets more and more ridiculous as the episodes go on. It's still a good series, though, but it doesn't do a lot of what makes Squid Game popular, imo. It's a totally different kind of entertainment. I have no connection with the main character, and I'm on episode 7 rewatching this. I don't even care about certain games, I just kinda want answers really. The games are secondary.

I'm not really sure what part you're referencing but I'm guessing maybe I got a prediction right or something but if you check out our other series we always are making predictions, mostly ending up being wrong but we still always do. We make it known on the channel when any of us have seen a show we're reacting to (Rob with Attack on Titan) and also won't react to shows that we've all seen (Squid Game) regardless if that show will help our channel do better or not. Believe me,there is depth in characters in the show. But you also have to think about the value of what you are being shown about each character. There are some characters that they're purposely going to want to keep mysterious. And there are some that will go in depth about the character with each episode

Even when I prefer AiB, I know that SG is better in writing, acting, "realism" I like more AiB, but unfortunately the story was declining a bit as the episodes passed, I feel that they would have given it a better development with 1 or 2 more episodes, or have added more games. But I still prefer it, I found it more entertaining and not to mention that I was able to enjoy it without spoilers (in SQ I knew the plot twist 😔), much lighter than SQ, the acting was not bad at all, and obviously the characters were taken from the manga (anime type) so yes, if you watch the series without taking this into account, many moments will seem ridiculous (as it happened to me and my friends) but it's good.
