The thing that's very interesting here is that you can clearly see how inconsistent and self-serving Gon's morals are, because he is openly willing to do what he criticized the Phantom Troupe of doing. We've had signs of this since the very beginning, actually, but it has been building up. He's willing to help other (some innocent) people, sure, but he's also willing to throw them under the bus in the worst ways if they get in his way or if that serves one of his objectives (see him sacrificing that dude during the hunter exam so he can take away Hisoka's tag, now his willingness to off Komugi bc she's in the way of his revenge on Pitou, thinking that it was unfair for Komugi to receive help since Kite didn't). Even his lashing out at Killua is purposefully cruel, because they've come this far with him encouraging a positive change in Killua, with the knowledge that now Killua does care - he saw how destroyed Killua was when he had to make Gon pass out and run away with him to save them from Pitou - yet now Gon tells him that for Killua it's easy to be rational because he doesn't care for anything; he basically just dehumanized Killua, his friend, because he dared to get between him and his revenge. And yes, we can argue that this is just him not being in a good place mentally, but that's not really the case as it's an escalation based on a pre-existing pattern. This, imho, makes him a very interesting character, even when i'm pissed off with him.

One of the best episodes of this arc. I love how complex Gon's emotions are during the palace raid it's just a shame the majority of the Hunter fandom have spent years dumbing down its complexity to surface level "Gon monster" or "Gon sociopath" takes.

Bruh seeing Gon angry was kinda cool but mostly sad, hes such a happy go lucky guy, no one wants to see him holding in that much pain and anger. Its becasue hes a nice guy that he cares so much about Kite, and feels so much guilt for the way the mission ended. Poor Gon man, and its only gonna get crazier from here. Well done for making it this far into the anime, the next few episodes will make even the skeptic of Hunter x hunter understand its goated. You need to go through this journey with them to feel everything that happens in this arc.

he's willing to off an innocent human being because he's (understandably) upset that the person he cares about is hurt (we know he's dead, Gon knows he's hurt) that's Evil, not Neutral

@@noxfior nah, it's neutral. As they said in Greed Island, they are in a mission, they are prepared to kill or die, that's why they healed Genthuru after the fight was over. And there's no way they could know for sure that Komugi is innocent at this point, she could easily be a bad human sided with the ants.

You guys stuck through all the episodes, the rest of the show is the rewards for the massive amount of buildup! Love it! Ps: Remember when the show started, Killua was the type of person take your heart out of your chest for looking at him sideways (or being unable to win a "sporty" game of tag with the HxH President and wanting to let off steam). Now Look at Killua then look at Gon o.O!!! This reaction felt rushed, with literally so much to discuss I feel like you guys were super busy or something as your usual reactions have such awesome breakdowns after the episode. I'm surprised. No comments about the hour time Gon's gonna sit there, the aura, how Killua must feel, wtf is going on with Pitou? etc.

@@notahooman3598 it is clearly stated when the royal guards were born that they would do anything for their king, Pitou didn't care about Komugi's well being, she cared only about the king's wishes. It's the same with the other chimera ants doing anything for the queen, their human selfishness is the only reason they started falling apart.

@@LuisGustavoSO yes, but this wasn't an animalistic "ant-like" care for the king out of blind loyalty as clearly shown by poufs defiance of the kings orders to instead try and influence him in a way that he thought would be best. If the royal guard truly acted like ants and just followed the kings exact commands then realistically our protags probably would have died. Their human ego, and like you said, selfishness. Outweighs their ant loyalty. (The exception being youpi since it was stated he was created using more magical beasts DNA than human which made him far less of an individual)

Just know this has been foreshadowed for the longest time. Togashi is a master at writing. Also, even though some side characters may not be the most interesting to y’all, especially when you want to get to the juicy parts of the season, they all serve an important purpose.
