I got the same runaround with the "We're commercial, you need consumer." I bet a lawyer could uncover the parent company if their defective products cause an accident. I have a lock that releases with just a brief pull when locked.

Same thing happened to me today. The comments in this video saved me a headache. 1/4” right were the key hole is drilled in and pulled out the locking mechanism. Sprayed some wd-40 into the barrel and hit the pin end with a screwdriver and hammer and it popped out.

this work great. started with a 1/4" bit then drilled with a 1/8. popped right out. great vid.

Just drilled mine out after a lock failure as well. I discovered there are o-rings in the locking part but water still managed to seep in and rust the lock. Bad design and now I’m on the hunt for a new hitch pin.

I used Peter Allan's method to drill it out. I used a 1/4" bit, not a wood bit, and drilled straight in literally where the key goes. First the lock cylinder and pieces came out, then another barrel piece. The final step, I used a large screwdriver and inserted once where the key and cylinder were and tapped with a mallet inline with the entire unit to effectively knock the pin out. A fast drill, a good 1/4" bit, and about 15 minutes of keeping after it is all you need. If I can do it, you can do it!

Same problem!! I almost decided to drill it out same as here, but tried to pry it off first. I used a long screw driver and applied pressure from the inside-out and pushed off the end. That worked. What a pain in the ass...gonna go with a different locking solution.

Yup! Same problem here. I used it for a trip from Jacksonville to the keys and back and then tried to take it off. Don't waste your time with customer service. Get out your DeWalt corded 3/8" drill and a 3/8 high speed bit and go to work. I drilled for about 30 mseconds, then changed to a larger bit (5/8) and voila! Hitch lock off.

Reese gave me the customer service runaround (we're the "commercial" operation, you have to contact the "consumer" operation). I didn't have time, and gave up on them. Don't buy their products, because even if they don't fail, they offer almost no security.

Ive just sprayed degresser in the key hole and actual barrel (if your trying to put back on if not just spray key hole) i found that its just build up of dirt and grime holding it up.

My lock with the silver letters CPP did the exact same thing! With the key inside, rotate the lock barrel until you see two tiny indentations. Use a jewelry screwdriver and place it on each indentation. The balls inside are frozen and a few taps on the outside of the lock barrel with loosen them. Tap each indentation & twist the key. My lock came off without needing to drill anything!

Mine had the same problem didn't stand up to even summer wet weather. I drove my truck back to my RV dealer that sold it to me and they cut it off for free and gave me a new one saying they would bill the broken one back to Reese. KEEP YOUR RECEIPT IF YOU BUY ONE OF THESE PIECES OF JUNK!

Take a regular hammer hold the side without the lock. And tap on the front top of the lock to make the pin push the locking chamber out

The insides of these are aluminum. Mine locked up and wouldn't release, so I tried heating it up to maybe loosen it up and it actually melted the insides out of it. Just used an oxy-acetylene torch you can pick up from your local refrigeration store. 🤷🏼‍♂️

A piece of pipe or large pipe wrench pulling up or down on end snaps those junk locks right off.
