Just listened to Neil deGrasse Tyson on Star Talk. His guest was his mother. He asked her about her parenting style. She said she just let each child follow his or her interests. All three children thrived. She didn't seem to martyr herself. She was raised Roman Catholic. She didn't particularly care that he found Roman Catholicism uninteresting. One unique feature was that there was an extra adult, beyond his mother and father, in the house. This extra adult meant that his mother didn't have to work quite so hard. After the children were gone his mother went to college and got advanced degrees. Somewhere along the line she taught herself to speak English as her first language was Spanish.

Abby was missing from Glennon's sense of security and safe bonding, because she never felt accepted like the girl with intense feelings she was (not in her family of origin, not in her group of peers, not by herself. Like people with BLPD , she doesnt have a strong sense of self because she did not have safe human bonds to help her regulate her strong intense emotions and so be able to find purpose in what ever she was doing). So she is just filling a void/wound by giving in to same sex attraction. It could feel like the real thing, the real happiness, but in the end it is not. I have seen it along decades in the history of people. She talks from her voids. She chose the long path to healing from the roots. God bless her.

Did I hear her to say we should do "not what she should do, or what's good, or what's right because those are not pure ideas?" If I"m hearing that correctly, two things come to mind. One, that is total and complete selfishness. Two, for a woman who says she's a Christian, that's not at all in line with what the Bible says. "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things. (Philippians 4:8). I fear this woman is sending some dangerously confusing messages.

I think her point was that it's not about what other people think is right but what we know for ourselves is right. "Right" doesn't always look the same for everyone. There are times where it does but there also times that require more nuance. Also, I would say that what she's done is pure, is lovely, is admirable

I don't think it was selfishness. I think she took a look at herself, at her (at the time) husband, at her kids and made a decision that might cause temporary pain but the potential for long term joy for everyone involved

If the marriage wasn't one based on being in love (romantic, sexual love), then yes divorce IS the best thing. They each went on to find the person that they love and are loved in return in the way you want a spouse to be. Also, not everyone believes in god (any god) or sin... some of us choose to be good people and do good deeds and treat each other fairly simply because it feels right and seems to be the right thing to do... not for fear of sin or punishment.

The father is there... he is co-parenting them along with Abby and Glennon. Having both male and female influences IS important, but it also doesn't have to be a father. My nieces didn't really have a dad that was in their lives, but they have two wonderful uncles who are that male presence for them. Please come join us in the 21st century and stop thinking like it's 1950.
