Referee APOLOGISES to Hull City after Sunderland defeat

The ref did this to a Sunderland player first, which ended up with Hull on the attack! I don't hear any Hull fans complaining about that one......Sunderland were the much better side, if they'd had their shooting boots on it could of been 3 or 4.

He got in the way of a few sunderland passes too, but hull had plenty of time after, the ref never touched the ball and the player had time anyway, the reason for the goal was hull had NO ONE BACK, You don't have defenders back you get caught out, instead of moaning look a at the teams own poor performance, he didn't touch the ball and it reached the player and had time on the ball but messed up with a turn

Well said. As a safc fan it was a tight game but your comments about your player having time when receiving the ball after it passed the ref are absolutely correct. he was under control and had a layoff to his right. he got caught on the ball and lost it. Best of luck for the rest of the season

Ref was useless all game but come on that's the 4th time we've done that. School boy stuff defending like that, Ref stood still we didn't have to pass it there. Even so Mehlem had the ball and lost it, again! If only we had a manager with a basic understanding of the game of what to do with your players. Get him gone.

Credit to you Baz for the measured reporting. These short corner’s are not effective. Felt like a huge error in interpretation of the laws from the ref. Along with the hand ball.. We’re pretty weak (physically) in key moments though, cost us during the corner. Still believe we held our own, Sunderland were not all that special. We have to be more clinical in front of goal. Hughes was a beast. Looks natural at this level

Poor refereeing decisions affect every team throughout the season. From what I've observed, Madley's interference with the Hull corner is a grey area (was in the path of the ball but didn't touch it...) And I knew Mehlem was going to fluff it when he tried to be too cute with the ball. And so he did! Hull were poor and guilty of the defensive naivety again (leaving one player in defence for a corner) inviting the inevitable break away goal. I'm not sure why they were chasing the game as if they were behind at that point and taking unnecessary risks. Going forward, City were frustrating: several openings or counters were created but the final pass or attempted shot was usually poor. The starting line-up was questionable to an extent: no Millar, Slater, Zambrano, Palmer? Why give Peurta his debut against the top team (he was pretty anonymous for me)? Why persist with Mehlem? Hughes played well and Bedia kept on running and tried to create his own chances despite the awful lack of decent service.

The goal destroyed City today, we just were not at it afterwards but we were totally on top before it. So yes we could have defended better… the referee should not have been in the way. You’re right that we didn’t do enough to win the game - 0 shots on target says a lot. Sunderland never looked like scoring either. 0-0 would’ve been the right result. On the plus side - City were much more solid today.

A good, balanced, summing up and those who are decrying you are really scraping the barrel for excuses why Hull lost the game. Listened to Walter's comments after the game and I wondered what planet he was on. The game could have went either way with only a goal to settle it. It went to us at SAFC. A good game but the reffing controversy is just a confected distraction. On to the next game for both teams. Go well Hull.

We defended well ,but decision making in the final third was again poor, and we shot ourselves in the foot once again, Sunderland took there chance well. Yes it was handball and should have a free kick and a yellow card.

If you watched you will notice that when Hull players were protesting to Madley after the goal .. he tugged at his own shirt. and pointing at the colour .. It's day glow yellow !! He couldn't be more visible .. Hull need to look at their concentration levels before whinging at the ref

The ball did not hit the ref. The Hull player had the ball fully under control after the ref got out of the way and then lost it to Neil entirely through his own actions. How the hell did the referee contribute to the goal? Utter garbage. Listen to what neutrals have to say on it !! The handball would never have been a red but possibly a free kick just outside the box. A 50/50 decision which went our way It was an even game which could have gone either way. You started the 2nd half really well and should have scored You consistently let Roberts have the ball in acres of space because you knew he would be no real threat. Very good tactics! Hopefully RLB will have made note of that for future team spection

If a player hits the ball at the ref, of course he's gonna be 'in the way'. He took an evasive step back (what else could he have done?), then your player totally ballsed up. End of story.

Nonsense. The ref impeded the player, who then lost the ball, this is a drop ball anywhere else on the field. The fact that Sunderland then get a 1v1 as a consequence is down to the ref. Hull played very well against top of the table Sunderland and ultimately the ref has decided the game. The Mepham handball is also a red and a clear denial of a goalscoring opportunity. The Bedia chance is the best chance in the game.

@@AdamWhitehead-c5e It wouldnt have been a red card! Your striker didnt have control of the ball, so a free kick edge of the box was the best you could hope for. As for the goal, your player still had time to adapt and play a safe pass. Instead he tried to be clever and was dispossessed so the goal was perfectly legit with no controversy at all. I thought Hull played well though, just no cutting edge in the final third.
