I once commented on this video saying that Owens was crazy to think he could penalize Botes for shouting even though it doesn't exist in the rule book! Understandably I got a lot of thumbs down for it! I regret making that statement! Owens is one of the best and in all honesty, I'd personally have him as the referee in any game I'd play! I sincerely love it when he openly lets players know that he won't take any crap from them when he talks! In my mind, one of the best! :)

That is the thing about some rules books. So many rules that people well versed will often miss the one or two lines that say the referee can deliver discipline outside of the standard rules if necessary to maintain order in the interest of the match, the players and the sport. Such as sin binning someone for calling out to the ref to take action. It may not be written as a caution able offence but the rule of law paragraph will allow it.

@FordPerfect @klutch1996 If you both look at the history of football, you will find out it was first called 'Association Football' which was shortened to “Soccer” and then after the game became popular with middle and lower classes it became football. Its got nothing to do with anybody outside of England..

@themadguyreturnth mate look atbandiboi100's comments and look who you're sideing with. although you have a very valid point, rugby players run a lot more when they don't have the ball and it's not just about running with the ball it's all the scrums, rucks and maul's that really take it out of you. and those hits take a lot more stamina out of you than the running, ask any boxer, body shots kill your stamina and make it harder to catch your breath whilst you fight, it's very much the same.
@Niiikh23
@Niiikh23 12 жыл бұрын
@TheOlliehill actually, football resembled rugby more than football before WWE supposedly picked up the ball. The Football Association created a set of standardised rules that would become football as we know it, and that became known as association football. It's fairly irrelevant really, I call 'soccer' football, just felt I had to put the people that don't know their history in their place :) (and that doesn't include yourself by the way!)

Brilliant! Explains the rules, explains who is in charge and all in a very matter of fact way, end of story. It's funny how 6ft+ behemoths are reduced to almost naughty schoolboys by refs in rugby :) I wish football was refereed in the same way because the abuse that those officials are subjected to by primadonna footballers is almost arrestable if it was done out on the street by me or you. Personally I think a 10 minute sin bin should be introduced for persistent offenders.

Football referees dont do that. They dont tell the players why they are being booked or carded, bad decisions cant be rescinded, football still refuses to use technology. Fix that first.

@TheOlliehill interesting to see it all started from stamina, im yet to work that one out, when you have a defencive line that will mainly use only half of the pitch, and really only a hand full of players will be pushing towards the goal in attack or in defence nobody really closes down the ball player, one pass and oh somebody else will get him & that means they have more stamina? i just dont get it, they see big people and think unfit but props could kill a footie on stamina alone :/
@wo0dy

@TheOlliehill haha i know the feeling, some people just dont get it. I have been there many a time and all it would take is for the footie supporter to open their eyes and stop being so narrow minded, i too dont mind football, just all the crap that comes with it spoils what could be an alright game. but i mean look at his reply to me uses an e.g of Henry, not like he ever cheated, he wouldnt handle the ball in order to score now would he. the guys isnt even worth wasting your time on tbh.

@TheOlliehill i see 2 comments form you to people and 1 from them back to you.. based on them 3 comments i can tell you 1 helpful thing.. a footie suport will never admit that rugby is equal to/more complex than football in almost every way including skill, and that kicking a ball and standing around for 20 mins while the other 70 mins is players rolling about, is far more knackering than the actual 80 mins of rugby, my advice to you is let them love the over paid shocking sport that is football

It's not like simulation doesn't happens in Rugby either. Bloodgate anyone? The difference between football and Rugby, is that we Football fans admit that there are problems within our game, while the Rugby fans thinks that Rugby is whiter than white and doesn't want to hear one bad word about Rugby.

@bandiboi100 i know, i'm confused why it's the most popular sport as well. And how can you call rugby boring when all football is is a bunch of poofs passing a ball back and forth. Rugby takes far more physical conditioning than football any day. Rugby players put there body on the line for 80 mins whilst footballers spend 90 mins making sure they don't get dirt under their freshly manicured nails

Football/soccer could learn so much from the way rugby union (and rugby league) treats, respects and assists its officials yet they stubbornly refuse to modernize that aspect of the game. For me, the best party of this is that the clock is stopped whilst the ref speaks his piece. That's as it has been for many years now yet in a football match the seconds would tick over and everyone would soon start to jeer. It's just a timing device - it CAN be paused!

@Obelisk1990 The word 'soccer' comes from the word 'association'. Association-rules football is the official name for football/soccer, just like Rugby-rules is the name for rugby. 'Football' is a term encompassing many sports. Association-rules just happens to be the most widely played.

football obviously takes more skill. it's a very technical game, you need to have really good eye to foot co-ordination. to be a rugby player, it's all about physique. you need to be a big, quick guy (depending whereabouts on the field you play obviously), but football is greater in terms of skill.

@swifta123 i would like it to be know to the world that we originally were argueing about stamina and now you have stopped talking about that and are trying to say that i was saying that there is less skill in football. This is false. They are completely different sports entirely and to jusge the level of skill required is meaningless. Rugby is a test of strength stamina speed skill and intelligence, football is nearly entirely skill with the rest but to a much smaller degree.
@TheOlliehill

@swifta123 i checked my inbox and these comments, either you didn't actually post a second comment or youtube is lying to me. Either way, i have not once said that it's harder to run with a rugby ball than a football.... not once. I have however said that it takes more stamina to play rugby. In regards to Messi, well i was the one that said that messi and ronaldo are probably the only two people in football that are more skillful than dan carter or johnny wilkinson.

After playing rugby and football for many years in my opinion rugby is much better. I find it a better atmosphere as the people are politer and better mannered. e.g in football I made a bad tackle and they hit me for it, in rugby I made a bad tackle and they got up without whining on the floor for hours I apologised we carried on with the game and afterwards shook hands and bought each other a drink.

@wbajrj Whose fault is that though, the football players, or the governing body that enforce refereeing standards? It's nothing to do with the players themselves, we've all seen how Rugby players behave off the pitch, picking fights on nights outs, cheating on their (royal) wives, jumping off boats before all downing a pint of piss. Great credit to this ref though, i'd love to see him put Wayne Rooney in his place!

Hate people saying people footballers couldnt take a hit at rugby. I play a very high level of rugby and i find it pathetic people comparing two sports that are totally different. @bandiboi100 The prop... Obviously! you are mistaking size for lack of fitness which is just moronic. watch an entire rugby match and an entire football match and tell me honestly that you think rugby players aren't all round fitter and better athletes. Also the fact that a goalie has to do the same fitness training as other footballers is not a good arguement as no footballer trains as hard as any rugby player... TBC

@bandiboi100 how is it that your arguement of "footy players are fitter end of" is enough to keep you convinced when i have thrown so many facts that prove you wrong it's just rediculous. It's not my opinion that they are fitter it's a fact. Look at say a prop against a goalkeeper the "least" fit of all of our positions. Props win hands down every time. Then look at say a flanker against any other position, (they are still one of the big guys in the scrums). it's just not a comparison.

@bandiboi100 As for football being better than rugby because of attendance thats utter horse shit. Football is a popular sport because its something anybody can do, rugby is less popular because either people never try it through fear of being hit hard or they do try and don't like being hit hard. Football is a much more accessible sport that anyone can play. Rugby is the most popular sport in many countries does that mean that in those countries football is a worse sport...? obviously not.
@TheOlliehill
@TheOlliehill 12 жыл бұрын
@bandiboi100 that is utter bollocks, those props with the big bellies are fitter than any footballer, they run constantly through rugby matches and when they're not running they are exerting huge amounts of energy in rucks, mauls and scrums. They go through rigerous training to keep at peak levels of fitness whilst footballerswalk around for half of a match waiting for the ball to come to them.

@T3AMThree I get pissed off by people like you, I love sports I play both rugby and football for my local teams and when someone like you comes along and says one requires more skill than the other, it fucks me off. They both require tonnes of skill, tactics and strength. And of course there are tactics involved in football! Do you think they just run around aimlessly?...Defenders have to keep their formation...strikers have to make runs... midfielders have to play through balls to the forwards
@messiahsplayland
@messiahsplayland 12 жыл бұрын
@aahabhbhhj But thats only if its 2 random teams, however when its like Real Madrid vs Barcelona then no one could ever get bored because they run nonstop. Rugby players have best stamina but football is also tiring because they also have to hit their head on the ball as hard as possible which is very dangerous. Also a player like the (Original Brazilian) Ronaldo had tremendous strength, speed and stamina all those three things better than most sports men.

Always disregard the ref. He's usually off his head anyway. Whenever I play I never try to talk to him and keep my distance from him. There is no benefit in speaking to the ref. @Niiikh23 although this may well be true, football was football before rugby was rugby football. William Webb ellis picked up a football and ran with it. He didn't pick up a soccer ball and run with it.

OK, so what we have is: American Football, Association Football, and Rugby Football. Many Welsh people call association football 'soccer' because they regard 'rugby football' as the only true 'football'.

@rusteeey Rugby players are fitter, I guess you have never played rugby -_-. I have played both and Rugby is defiantly more physical than football.
