References for... Shadow Mod (2018)

My goal in animating this Shadow mod was to reference the original animations from the game but make them simpler and clean to "modernize" and make fit in how Sonic World works. Nailing it, which I hope 2018 me did, mostly came down to referencing poses and capturing the "feel" of the game.

When you animate Shadow skating, it looks like he actually cares about getting somewhere in a hurry. He has a stride, he has a rhythm, and he has a sense of committal. Shadow nowadays looks like movement bothers him, like it's a chore he can't be arsed to do properly.

This is great just my opinion i believe sa2 shadow has the best skate animation its very fluid and unique and also has a boost up run version which isnt flying lol often overlooked and underated

I agree. A lot of these were timed to 15-18 fps because of how Sonic World works. All these animations were pushed to 24fps for video editing purposes.

The first animation cracks me up. It looks like he wants to flap his arms like a bird but doesn't want to commit to it. Also, it looks like he's practically doing the splits while posing with the Chaos Emerald. Mad respect for being able to hold that pose for so long. My favorite is when he's skating, though. It's just so satisfying how smooth the motion is. Awesome looking animations. Thanks for sharing!

The last two are lifeless, the original ones show more real body movements like breathing, not a machine totheleft-totheright move. But animations before those two were extremely impressive, i liked it a lot. They look like the old ones, but better in quality and smoother in movement. So. Uh. Great job, frien :D

In the game “Shadow The Hedgehog” His animations are stretchy and bendy. Thats what makes his character unique in his own game. The falling spin-dashing and even the skating is amazing. He is my favorite character.

I love this! My only thing is that certain animations add a little cartoony stretch that helps sell his speed and force on his falls, and also allows him to reach enemies without making him have directly touch them for combat. It’s a small thing but something look good in my opinion
