Thanks for this video. IF after refill it stills complains it's empty: (COMPATIBLE CARTRIDGE) TAKE OUT THE SMALL CIRCUIT BOARD. YOU MAY NEED TO LEVER A PLASTIC HOOK AWAY WHILE YOU PRY IT OUT, OR CUT FLUSH SOME PLASTIC RIVET, EITHER WILL HOLD IT IN PLACE. THERE IS A SMALL BUTTON CELL BATTERY ON THE OTHER SIDE, INSIDE A METAL HOLDER. SOME OF THE METAL WILL BE BENT TO HOLD THE BATTERY IN. FOLD IT BACK. PUSH THE BATTERY OUT FROM THE OTHER SIDE WITH A PIECE OF WIRE OR TOOTHPICK. KEEP IT OUT A FEW SECONDS. PUT IT BACK IN. MAKE SURE THE NEGATIVE SIDE WITH THE CIRCLE POINTS TOWARDS THE CIRCUIT BOARD, AND THE POSITIVE SIDE, THAT EXTENDS TO THE SIDE WALL OF THE BATTERY, THE ONE WITH THE TEXT MARKINGS, TOUCHES THE METAL CAGE. THIS WILL RESET THE CHIP. THEN PUT THE CIRCUIT BOARD BACK ONTO THE CARTRIDGE. IT SHOULD WORK NOW.

Hello Fridelain, thanks for Your contribution. It´s worth to give this a try with alternative cartridges. We learned from our own tests that removing the battery from such chips - makes the chips´brain forgetting everything - after setting back the battery every information on the chip is deleted. Maybe this does not apply to all alterntive chips - that´s why we say it is worth to try....

+bitbites abc LC103 is the previous cartridge model series. You can apply the method shown in this video also on LC103, no problem. Beside the way of refilling please make sure to use a proper ink suitable for LC103 cartridges.

Hello, thank You very much for Your question. 1.) The inner ink tank always contains some air when the proper quantity of refill ink has been filled. The more ink is consumed by printing the more air is in the inner ink tank. The air replaces the consumed ink. 2.) You can also use such a refilled cartridge WITHOUT resetting the chip. Then You have to print without proper ink level information. The ink level information for such a refilled and NOT RESET cartridge will be deactivated.

Hello Jeffery, the LC-201 is actually the smallest version of the cartridge series LC-201, 203, 205, 207, 209. So the original amounts of ink are 7 ml for black LC-201 and 4 ml for cyan, magenta, yellow LC-201.

Let´s hope the best. Usually Brother is using lower page yield by filling less ink to sell the cartridges for a lower price. But in some cases the physics of the cartridge do not work well if You fill more than the original amount of ink. Keep an eye on Your prints, then You should be fine. When drops appear on the prints it may be better to remove the excess ink from the cartridges.

+jimihenrik11 It is sufficient to rinse the syringes using water after use. Pull the plunger out of the syringe´s body and eversthing can dry properly.

Hello Aideo, thanks for Your nice feedback 👍🏻 The LC401 cartridges have ink chips build on. For these chips it is necessary to have the suitable chip reset device - this one is still missing at the moment (status March 14th 2023) - we have our eyes on the market and as soon one of our suppliers will have this ready we are going to set up a solution. Without the resetter You can fill up ink into the cartridge but the printer refused to go on printing with this cartridge as it "thinks" the cartridge is still empty due to the chips´ empty status...

Danke für das Lob! Bei der Befüllung mit Spritze und Kanüle ensteht innerhalb der Patrone kein Über- oder Unterdruck, vorausgesetzt die Einfüllöffnung ist größer als der Kanülendurchmesser. Während des Betriebs im Drucker erfolgt der Druckausgleich über die obere Belüftungsöffnung an der Patrone.

Danke für die positive Rückmeldung. Füllmenge 6 ml bezieht sich auf LC-223 Patronen, bei LC-225 kommen 12 ml rein, bei LC-227 = 25 ml und bei LC-229 passen 50 ml. Das sind die originalen Tintenmengen, die auch Brother bei der Paroduktion einfüllt. Theoretisch passt immer ein bisschen mehr rein, aber Überfüllung kann dazu führen, dass die Patrone physikalisch (Druck + Entlüftung usw.) nicht richtig funktioniert. Aufgrund dessen empfehlen wir die Originalfüllmengen :)

Brother J6935dw uses LC3217 / LC3219 cartridges - they are a different story - this tutorial does not work for them. We will have refillable cartridges for LC3217 / LC 3219 soon.

Thanks for Your feedback! Nowadays basically all inkjet printers are equipped with technology creating information about the ink level status. We like the printer models that have build in ink tanks that can be filled by bottles - they are available from Brother, HP, Canon and Epson....

Hello Peter, filling up an empty cartridge with ink does not restore the displayed ink level back to FULL. With sufficient ink inside the cartridge You should be able to start print jobs despite the empty status.

but if you don't have to reset the chip , then you don't know when the ink end and the print head may burn if over hit . and the chip resetter is very cheap now , so I suggest buy one for reset need if who want printing photo or documents smooth :-)

Hello Dennis, it depends a bit what kind of ink you are using for Your black cartridge. In case it is a black pigmented ink it will not work properly in the other cartridges as they are running on dye base inks. The worst think that can happen is that the nozzles for cyan, magenta and yellow will be blocked. But if You really do not need these colors You also do not need those nozzles .

What's the point in having the float level indicator and a chip. All that is needed is the float and a light sensor to tell the printer ink level is low.

We are with You in that point - but this solution would make it too easy for You to use the cartridge again - Brother® does not really want that :) The chip is a clever way to make customers buy original cartridges only as long as the alternative cartridge manufacturers are working on an alternative chip solution.

As low as the price's Are for NEW ink cartridges on eBay, AND taking a chance of burning the print head if the Brother All in One, THINKS the Cartridge's or Cartridge is full but not, Than I think it would be best to use new and just have to pay a little more than to take that chance and maybe even make a mess. I like saving money just like anyone else, But I don't want to be ordering parts to install when I'm really not sure how easy that is ether.

Thank You very much for contributing on that topic. Unfortunately a lot of the NEW alternative inkjet cartridge products have a quite unreliable quality inkwise and chipwise - in our humble opinion. So refilling the originals requires a bit of practice, that´s right. At the same time working with original cartridges also pays respect to the original manufacturers intellectual property and rights.

Thanks for the question. The housing of the LC40BK might be a bit different and the fixing of the housing to the inner tank too. But basically it is not impossible to figure out how to get the housing off. The inner tanks for the ink are quite similar to each other, so find a suitable spot for the fill port and You can do as shown in our video.

Every time I fill it, I can print almost 50 sheets and then the printer gives the note "Not enough ink to keep print quality". Thanks for the question. Do You use a refill ink specificially for the Brother LC22x cartridges series? In case some of the physical characteristics of the used refill ink do not match the printers´ requirements this message may show up.

+waniushka As long as You have not reset the original cartridge´s chip using a suitbale chip resetter, the ink level stays at the status empty. When setting back the refilled cartridge into Your printer the printer asks if You have changed the cartridge. You have to answer this with YES. Then the ink level information for this cartridge is deactivated. The process does not work for alternative cartridges.

Alternative cartridges we name cartridges not made by Brother. These cartridges do not support continued printing with a refilled cartridge due to their chip, which is not made by Brother too.

Thank You very much for these additional information. These cartridges are called setup cartridges. They should are original Brother cartridges. Some of our customers told us that setup cartridges did not work refilled in their printer, but we were not able to reproduce that result as our setups also worked refilled in our printer. We recommend to have at least one set of regular (non setup) Brother original cartridges.

How can you refill an LC3319XL cartridge? I cannot find an air release valve.

Thanks for Your question. The LC3319 have a different design layout. Actually You can push the refill ink into the cartridge by using the ink port. We have video tutorial that shows the extraction of the ink out of an original Brother cartridge - using that method the reverse way enables You to refill ink into Your cartridge. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4XbYpyKgaZmias Our problem is at the moment that Brother does not support anymore that You can keep on printing with an empty original chip - that means You can refill Your cartridge with suitable ink but the printer will not accept that cartridge for further printing :(

Thank you very much for Your question. You can apply this refill method on LC201 cartridges too. But according to my knowledge the LC201 exists as standard yield cartridge only. The ink quantity for LC201 black is 7 ml and the ink quantity for LC201 cyan, magenta or yellow is 4 ml.

There is a chip resetter availabel which you can use the reprogramm the chip on the cartridges. But luckily Brother still provides the opportunity to keep on printing with an "empty" chip. You will not have any ink level related messages anymore for that cartridge but You can print if there is sufficient ink inside.

Quite a number of our users asked for the tutorial with refilling by applying a hole into the cartridge body. The way to refill the cartridge by the ink outlet and paying attention to release the built up pressure at the same time was to much to handle at the same time for this user group.
