I've kept a Pilot V5 going with fountain pen ink for about twenty years.

How does it compare to a new pen in terms of writing smoothness? Some of these pens only seem to be bedding in as the ink runs out.

I've never had a new one as this was 'acquired' part-used. All I can say is that it works very well; I chiefly use it for drawing circuit diagrams.

Wow, that's a really long time. After about 5 fillings, I find that the ball in the tip will drop off. I get better mileage with a pilot varsity/v pen. I could refill those indefinitely.

ThePillenwerfer what was the ink's name? I want to refill my v7.

Once the felt tip nib come off, I would suggest using a syringe with a needle, to inject ink through the hole left behind by the nib. That way, no need to pull the finned section out. It looks like it requires a fair bit of force to pull out with a pair of pliers and risk damaging it. In another youtube video, refill pilot pen using vacuum method, the method can be used for this pen without any risk of damaging the pen. Thx for showing us another way to refill this pen!
@bigclivedotcom9 жыл бұрын
The ribbed section is pretty robust, but you do have to grip the end quite tightly. I also wanted to clean the ribs of residual ink, although you're right, a long syringe would fill through the nib and wick hole.
@nonchip6 жыл бұрын
not so robust though, we can see a bent disk on the end in the video. and if you do it multiple times it will break. so the needle already on the refill kit (looks narrower than the felt) should be the better option unless you really have to clean the ribs.

You could also use a variety of fountain pen inks to refill your pen - in case you want to write in super-fun colors.

How deceptive that the reservoir is so small, and they just hide it! >:( Thanks for the vid, though, it's gonna save me a lot! Actually I just seldom used the pen because I was afraid of running out of ink, but now I'm gonna use it a lot more often! Thanks a bunch, mate!!!

@reb-ii10 жыл бұрын
I wonder if it would be possible to drill out the top of the ink reservoir, allowing you to use the entire barrel as an extended reservoir?
@bigclivedotcom10 жыл бұрын
I did ponder that, but as standard, the seal the end-cap makes with the barrel is probably not ink proof. In hindsight there would also be an issue with ink flowing down the air inlet as soon as the top was uncorked.

I believe you can make an adaptor with a syringe where you effectively pull a vacuum and then as it is released the ink gets drawn in.

There a hole in the bottom or other side of the pin, plus the plug on the bottom end, end with out tip pulls out. Can't you just fill it through that end through the hole or is it not the same resavor.

can you do a video about fountain pens? I have this limited one with gold nip someone gave it to me but I never got it to get it to work I've tested everything to make it work thought maybe it's stuck or there is dry ink in it so I even put it in jewelry washers and hot waters and all when it's filled it won't work but when I press it n any ink from outside and write it will work abit an sometimes even ink from inside will come out a little bit but It will stop very fast and I am trying t use it for drawing can't have it rip like this :(

Thanks for this video. Can you also suggest a way to create the fiber tip of this pen as I feel that you can't fill this pen more than twice with that tip as it losses its firmness? I am not being cheap here, just don't like to throw these pens away. Thank again.
@bigclivedotcom4 жыл бұрын
I find the tips last a very long time unless they are used on very rough paper, or if my brother uses one and applies so much pressure it crushes the tip.

Regular Indian ink should work with this pen shouldn't it? As it seem to flow fine when I tilt the pen. Also when I try this with the pliers it seem to bend the nib and could that be why it isn't working? If so I cant seem to do it without bending it
@bigclivedotcom5 жыл бұрын
I used a pair of side cutters to gently grip the seam on the tip of the pen well back from the fibrous tip. It should handle any decent free flowing ink. I just had printer ink on hand.

Can pls let us know how many times the pen can be refilled before the fiber tip wear out and is there a way to replace/substitute the worn out tip? Thx!
@bigclivedotcom9 жыл бұрын
The wear on the tip depends on the surfaces and pressure used. I don't think it's really viable to make a new tip. If it fails it would probably be easiest to buy a new pen.
@tbelding6 жыл бұрын
If you were going to try to do that, it'd make more sense to simply buy a Platinum Preppy sign marker, and a stash of replacement fiber tips.
