Even after 11 years, your video was VERY helpful to me. Your instructions helped me reload my Mighty Midget that I bought at a garage sale. It now works great. Thank you!!

Excellent....I had one of these guns and could not recall how to load...went to local hardware store and they told me that a plunger had broken off??!! Wrong! You have saved me lots of time/effort!

Video was very helpful to me too. I have the same model that I inherited with a few tons of tools from my father. He is no longer answering questions so I turned to KZbin! It was a great help to see the video as how you refill it from just looking at the grease gun isn't so obvious. The video did a better job explaining than my father ever could have.

My Dad left me an old Unimite Cartridge Gun made in Nebraska and I bought some small Lucas cartridges for it. I had never seen a gun without a rod on the bottom to load it? I thought maybe the whole base came off? Your video really helped because otherwise it was going in the trash, antique or not! Works good now! Thank you.

Back around 1968 my Dad bought me one just like that for greasing my motorcycle. I’m 70 now and still have it and still use it. It’s the only one I’ve ever had or used. But the problem I’ve always had is when I load a new cartridge in it and push it down, grease squirts out of the small hole in the bottom every time. I always assumed that hole was there for air. I lose about a fourth of the grease out of that hole every time.

Very good vid. Most people that buy these type guns have no clue how to actually get the old cartridge out. You showed how it is easily done.

Glad for this video. My old full-sized guns, which I can't find, had a pull handle at the back that you used to pull the piston in. The mini one I just got through E-Bay doesn't, so I thought I was gypped.
@Stray032 жыл бұрын
Yeah the big ones all have handles or a chain to pull it back with, this one was new to me when I went to refill it too.

Thanks - I wasn't sure about the aluminum foil. AND -- I noticed you had a little trouble taking the old "cartridge" out, I had ALOT - it was in pieces. Sooo --- a thought. I am going to put a little grease on the outside of the new cartridge.

The tubes are standard small tubes you can buy at an automotive store. The gun was found at a yard sale IIRC. Also I mentioned it in the description but the original tubes had smaller openings than the tubes you get now, so when you opened the grease gun, the spring would push out the original refills, with these, you will have to pull the refill out sort of like you see me do in the video.

I have a Power built mini grease gun. Today I was unable to pull the old cartridge out easily. I tried using pliers and screwdrivers and finally getting a bite on it and turning it and I got it about a third of the way out and then it still wouldn't come out so I ended up taking the other end of the grease gun off and wiggling it out to get get the tube out what I found was that the the plunger had gone up inside the mini cartridge and was stuck all of the the springs and everything were inside that tube and I literally had to cut away the plastic and peel away the plastic to get them off. And I never had that problem before so I'm not sure what happened do you have any idea what could have caused that or am I just using a poor grease gun the power built?
@Stray032 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately No clue. Could be just bad luck with the cartridge. Try another to see if it happens each time.

@Stray033 жыл бұрын
Yeah you are fighting spring pressure on most grease guns so it should be done while empty. Attempting to do it with an installed cartridge will be hell.

Is your gun old or from the 1980’s ?? I’m trying to buy an older one from the 1950’s but I can’t tell if it’s old or not. It looks like yours. It’s a Unimite

I wish this worked with the larger ones. It seems the one I have won't take the standard size cartridges for some reason.
@Stray038 жыл бұрын
+martK banjoboy Really? strange I didn't know they made more than 2 basic sizes. Diameter too small? Or length too short?
@martkbanjoboy88538 жыл бұрын
It seems the diameter is a bit on the small side. Other than size, it seems about the same as yours. I will have to take a look at it. It is a Lincoln Engineering Co. 1043 series. Very old device. To fill it you have to cock a spring loaded plunger by pulling it back under tension & fitting a neck into a slot in the end cap which threads on. Then when the (?) refill is in there you screw it on to the top part & put the load back on the plunger. The last time I filled it I did it the hard way lol.
@Stray038 жыл бұрын
+martK banjoboy I know it is a stupid question but since it happened to me I figure I might as well ask. Is it possible an old tube is still in the thing? With the left over grease and such the old tubes look like they are part of the machine.
@martkbanjoboy88538 жыл бұрын
I wish it were so, but I cleaned it out thoroughly some time ago. Nothing in there. Lincoln is still around - interesting. I am thinking it is an old bulk fill unit.

Geez... I always broke the foil before screwing the tube end into the head... and always got grease oozing out all over, and losing half the grease in the tube ! Thanks... I will try the right way next time... and hopefully my grease tubes will last longer too!

My seal didn't break. I was about to puncture the seal then I read your comment. Rock and hard place, what to do?
@verinb95 жыл бұрын
Lol I thought I was the only one. 😂
@airmojo5 жыл бұрын
@@JesusIsaFlatEarther The seal on mine does not always break... best to place the gun's metal tube in a vise so you have both hands free, and unscrew the head to expose the tube's foil seal, and puncture it (I use a pointed nail) and quickly re-install the head before too much grease escapes. I think the foil seal may be different depending on the manufacturer of the grease refill tube.
