my dad and I recently swapped a D16y8 out with a direct replacement. the old engine is a 97, the new one is a 2000 so i think we have to swap the intake and other than that we went from the A4RA to a B4RA, supposedly interchangeable automatics. when we got almost everything hooked up, it didn't even crank. after adding an extra ground strap to the starter, my dad got it to crank, but i think the different things on the intake are keeping it from firing right now. i have to get back there to check a few things and make sure its getting spark and fuel but i think we almost have a running and driving car again. its my first engine swap and his first one that's post-1980 or so. we're both pretty excited to get it done and see how it all works.

Just something to keep in mind. For a road rave application the D16Z6 's are preferred over the D16Y8's as the Y8 oils the motor from one side to the other and the Z6 oils the motor from center out, This leads the Y8's to have issues maintaining oil pressure at the far end of the block and makes them more prone to spinning bearings. At the least you should look in to getting an upgraded oil pump if you want it to last. I know Bad Guys Worldwide sells ported Y8 pumps and im sure there are other options out there too.

I put a z6 in an ek, I just pulled the z6 guts out and swapped them over to the y8 dizzy. It works for all d/b/h/f hondas. We put z6 guts in an h22a dizzy to put it into an eg also, so we didn't have to rewire anything

BIG CONGRATS, BRO! This is awesome! One day swaps are legendary. hahah About the distributor- In the past I have swapped out the internal parts of distributors. I would swap out the internals of the dizzys and see if it fixes the code. That could help free up some funds for other essentials. Of course, buying new would alleviate all distributor issues, but it is always pricey.

Any input is appreciated thanks
@RefineMovement6 жыл бұрын
I have never done that swap so I am not an expert ok. But I would think you could use the y7 harness, you would have to add the vtec wiring to it and also use the y8 ecu. That's essentially what I did to mine, was add the proper ecu and wire in the vtec. I'm not sure on your power steering question, sorry.

We recently changed the wiring harness out from a ‘95 dx. We added the vtec wires straight to my p28 ecu. It can be tough to find a complete harness I know. Just keep looking, check your local forums, or find a shop that may have one. Really you should be able to keep your harness though if you have a ‘98 and you’re going from a y7 to a y8. You would just add the vtec wires as well and you’d want to find the ecu from a y8 too

Quick question you said this was a automatic engine wat did you do exactly to make it work cuz am replacing my y8but I couldn’t get a manual so i got a automatic one and idk wat i got to change to make it work is it just the flying wheel?
@RefineMovement6 жыл бұрын
Yeah that’s it ma . You’ll find that the automatic engine has a special plate where the flywheel would be that links the longblock to the automatic trans. Sorry, I don’t know what it’s called. But so anyway you just remove it and then you replace it with a flywheel so you can link it up to your automatic trans. Same bolts are used to bolt up the flywheel. I hope I explained myself well and you get what I mean!

Refine Movement i have a manual trans and the engine I bought its an automatic engine so do i only have to remove the plate from the automatic engine and replace it wit my old flying wheel?? And do i have to teplace anything else like the pilot bearing or i can use the one my flying wheel has from my old blown engine??

what kind of jack was that they used at the front end of the car. 1 ton, 1.5 ton?

I believe it’s a 1.5 ton, it’s my friend Travis’ not mine so I’m not exactly sure. It’s nice though, a low profile jack for lowered cars
