also the fact she chose expensive options even when she was in a budget kinda made me feel a bit upset. So a $50 dollar budget and she spent her last FOUR DOLLARS on starbucks and gave the homeless woman a few cents :/ what im trying to say is she had first world problems even with a budget. like canned beans? dishwasher pods? Starbucks coffee? also a lot of people can easily budget that. Hell, $50 is more of a blessing than a budget. I could order food every day.

By your own coffee will same you a lot more money. shredding the chicken and adding different flavors would have changed up for your taste buds. Instead of kidney beans you could have gotten chick peas and made hummus and falafel. Also making overnight oatmeal would assure you would not miss this meal. And a decent splurge would be getting coffee from a deli or small shop for $1.50 not $4.50.

I spend the vast majority of my money on my classroom and transportation for PD. It's a very very very rare treat that I buy coffee for myself, and it usually comes from a gas station for ~50 cents. $50 a week would be a freakin' awesome budget for me. Seriously.

Why buy peeled garlic and expensive oatmeal when you can get a bunch of whole garlic, store brand oatmeal, etc. Aren't there like Chinatown produce markets in NYC? Buy veggies there. Buy a big bag of beans, look for dollar stores that have food. Buy chicken drumsticks on sale and freeze what you don't need just yet. If you have unlimited transportation, go the extra mile to save a lot on your food, explore on your day off to find better grocery stores, and buy what spoils quickly closer to where you live.

I am a student from Germany. We don't really have dorms here at our universities but rent a place. I live on 50€ a week. That includes groceries, the stuff for my cat as well as hygiene products and other items of everyday life. It can be hard sometimes but with a bit of planning, everything is possible. I loved this video because it was so relatable but also showed that it does not really need much more to be happy and it is even possible to treat yourself sometimes. :)

Jannyl13 Yeah that's why y'all are getting so many of us college aged kids over there. With the new crappy candidates coming up, the increasing racial tensions, the rise in prices and poverty futures for the younger gen. are looking quite bleak here in the states. My bf and I were planning on moving overseas but we can't afford it right now because he just got super lucky and started his career super early at 20 but it'll be a year or so until he starts raking in a good enough amount of cash. We should have enough money saved up in the next 5 years or so here to move though. Let's hope all goes well with that. I wanna be living it good in Germany!

Good idea, but man things are a bit skewed. Depending on how many trips you absolutely need on the subway (think more along the lines of 2 trips per day to and from work), the pass is only worth it if your requirements go over the cost of paying per day. Unlimited travel is usually not a necessity. You got garlic cloves pre-peeled and in packages, there is no way that was cheaper than a regular ol' bulb of garlic you peel yourself. And that oatmeal you got, I recognize the brand and that is probably one of the most expensive brands out there. Splurging on coffee is fine, but that looks like a grande from Starbucks which again is a more expensive brand of coffee. If you HAD to have your favourite, go with a tall. I've had many years of surviving off a small budget and some of these choices reflect the fact that next week you're able to spend 50$ per week on just eating out alone when the reality for most people is they just cannot afford that whatsoever. On the other hand, I live in Canada where those grocery items, transit pass and drug store items all cost way more than what you had to pay. Deodorant alone can cost around 6$ leaving 3 left for contact solution? Ha! Not here! lol

That’s extremely unhealthy and not to mention unrealistic for someone on an actual budget. The health care system in the US is absolute trash so keep repeating that routine for a couple weeks or months and mix in a little diabetes and a pinch of clogged arteries and a dash of a minor heart problem U’ve got urself a perfect storm, that could’ve been prevented by just cooking ur damn food. And all that money she saved on using less that $50 is not gonna cover her medical bills. Yes she could’ve done that for this one video but our side of her little budgeting vacuum that’s extremely unrealistic. Plus, from all that detail she went into about spreading out her protein she’s obviously a health conscious person so no daily Little caesar for her🙃

Lmfao at the “I had a few dollars left so I splurged” yeah it’s easy to buy coffee with your last $4 when you know that tomorrow you’re going to have all your money back. Try living like this for a month or even a whole week???? Girl I could have made that $50 last at least 3 weeks. And that whole spending $116 on a pass and doing the math... uh no... you had 50 not 116. That’s pretty much cheating. Someone with only $50 wouldn’t have been able to do that. It’s nice that you’re trying to understand what it’s like to live on that kind of budget but honestly it’s also slightly insulting. Try walking an hour and a half to and from work instead of wasting on transportation. Try shopping for 1-2 weeks worth of groceries with only $30. Try waiting until you get home to eat instead of buying pizza.

But you need to realize, living in the city is super busy and people don't usually have a lot of food at home because they eat out a lot. and she could've made more food for herself and gotten pizza all week, but you also need to be healthy as well. so everyone needs to calm down and give her a break. not every state has dollar stores that everyone can use. she did her best and tried to live her life normally. give her a damn break. you are all like 2 years old and your parents pay for everything. all of the money was not all for pocket money like food and contact solution. she didn't even buy herself any snacks to eat while most people her age eat a lot more. she also normally would have to pay rent. and if she ran out of anything like dishwhaser pods or face wash, she would have ran out of money. living with 50 dollars a month is extremely hard considering she lives in nyc and need transportationn and food. and food is also super expensive in the city so yall need to calm the f down. :)

Ah yes, such a shame she didn't keep those $.97 cents all to herself. If she did she would've been so SELFISH!

what kind of ignorant people are they?? I'm a student in a country where you get less for $50, and I sometimes spend that much in TWO weeks!
@LaurokaPlay8 жыл бұрын
+lollsazz i garantee you that if you count transportation and the price of food in NYC, it's a pretty tight budget

Jocelyn Look up “London Hacks” these people ruined his challenge.

IMFAO First of all, London Hacks is in London, they use pounds there, so the currency they use worth more. Second of all, she is in New York City. The population density is a lot higher, so the rent is higher, the food is higher, the transportation is higher, everything is a lot more expensive.

The main point is to live within your mean. If u make 500 then save 150, house 150, emergency 50 and spend 150. Something like that and you will be fine.

it seems like you went food shopping and didn't buy anything that was on sale, which believe it or not is a great way to save, and seriously you bought peeled garlic in a box? please spare me! Also Starbucks is an expensive habit, it's actually cheaper to make your own coffee I've lived in NYC all my life, and I'm always apprehensive about the way these videos make new york living seem so expensive and dire, its ridiculous
@jonny54158 жыл бұрын
thats exactly how much i got every day... just brew your own coffe, it is way cheaper and tastes a lot better than Starbucks. the same goes with with food, buy fresh stuff and cook with it instead of buying canned food

I like how everytime someone on youtube goes shopping, no one is swooshing back and forth near them. Meanwhile I got to Walmart early, and it's 5:30am, and they open at 6am, and half the parking lot is already filled. And it's no special day. It's just June 19, 2023.

As she said, budgeting is not about restricting. In my opinion, it’s about getting creative. My family has been...well uh...not financially the best. And we always find ways to feed all 6 of us with a surprising budget (tip: it’s a lot cheaper to buy ingredients to make food then to actually buy food!).

how can 1.6K people dislike this video? this video just challenged me to try this as well. I work in Downtown Toronto where there is an Underground Path with tons of fast foods and restaurants that always tempted me to buy meals outside. all these meal expenses also add up . Will be trying this challenge soon. Thank your for your videos, Lucy.
