That has to have been the best explanation of a sealer I’ve ever heard. Simple and straightforward, thank you. PS I thought you did a great job getting the frame squared up in the last scene I also thought it was funny how Stewart walked in at the end and looked around like “who are you talking to man?” 🤣 Take care.

@@LostMountainRestoration my mam as I grew up had the type of furniture that you restore. She was always giving out to me. Please don't put hot tea on the furniture (okmam) we had a bronze bottle called (ring away) that we would apply to the table to remove the ring. White ring would appear on the table. Please reply ¿?????

Hi Larry, I too learned a great deal from your video. But here is a question I hope you can help me with. I have refinished a beautiful antique table. But the top looks like quarter sawn oak and it is very orange. That Toner you used what did you dilute it with? And can you put if over Poly and then give it another coat? Thanks Ellen

This a full time gig for you? Or just something for the side? I work for a local furniture store and repair all the case goods that come in damaged or damaged on delivery and on the side I restore used and antique furniture. love your videos you have alot of talent! Keep up the great work.
@LostMountainRestoration
@LostMountainRestoration 4 жыл бұрын
It is more of a side gig to supplement my retirement and keep me busy. In the past I bought, fixed and flipped a ton of furniture. That market has faded, so now I do just a few client pieces and then repairs and touch ups for an antique mall. I'm pretty much slowing things down, picking my work carefully and trying to make more free time for other things as I get older. Best of luck to you with your business. Thanks for watching and commenting. Best regards.

Did you try flaming it out? I don't know if that finish would work with that technique. You just put some alcohol over the area and light it on fire. It will remove water stains in a lot of situations. One of the neatest tricks I have ever learned.
@LostMountainRestoration
@LostMountainRestoration 4 жыл бұрын
I have done that on old shellac finishes, but have never tried it on a poly finish.

One of the big challenges I have is discarding the mess I get off the furniture after stripping. How do you get rid of it?
@LostMountainRestoration
@LostMountainRestoration 4 жыл бұрын
Check with your local authorities to make sure you are in compliance with their regulations. In my case, I scrape it into a container with news paper and when it dries it can go in the trash. Best regards.

It depends on your area. If you call around you can get prices from various refinishing shops. Often, they charge by the foot and the finish type requested.

Is lacquer the best finish for a tabletop?
@LostMountainRestoration
@LostMountainRestoration 4 жыл бұрын
In this case I think it was the best option. You saw what happened to the factory finish, which I believe was some kind of urethane. No finish is battle armor and each has its benefits and short comings. I use lacquer on most of my projects and have had good results. Thanks for watching.

U could of used an iron to get out the white spots. Instead u went through all that work for nothing... and your wasting your time with sealing, toning, top coating, then glazing, then Top coating again. You should’ve just stained it Then sprayed it with lacquer done deal
