Should use GoJoe on those crome pieces that old browned oil will just melt off

Oh my gosh !! Just found this video and I am doing 2 child chairs exactly like this. I have the issue of them being painted red so the red paint is being a pain to remove just like your green. My client wants it to be done in Golden oak stain color. What steps do you suggest for me. I’ve never used pigments before. Thanks

I have just watched all these videos from beginning to end! Wow…! I am SO emotional! My very first sewing machine was a Singer Treadle machine just like this one. I was 9 years old when I got it and made my very first dress on it. Sadly it was sold along with many other childhood treasures when I was 13. I have now inherited a similar machine which belonged to my Grandmother in law, and which my Mother in law passed to me. It isn’t as “pretty” but it has its own unique history. It’s been stored for many years and is covered in dust, bits of rust and grime. I will do my best to bring it back to life and enjoy that clickety clack sound that only comes with sewing on a treadle machine. Thank you Larry for all the invaluable tips along the way. Great in depth guide! I’ve been researching how to fix up my great-grandmother’s machine and it’s nearly identical to this one.

Thanks for sharing your restoration process. I have my Grandmothers 1912 Singer 66 and it needs a lot of love. You've given me the confidence to give it a go. I will be outsourcing some of it but I feel much more confident and I'm excited to make a quilt on it for my Dad.

I have this same Hammacher Schlemmer bench. It was already an antique when my father bought it about 60 years ago. I followed a similar procedure to refurbish mine. I built a huge router sled jig to flatten the top accurately and took about a quarter of an inch off to remove a crown. It's still covered with battle scars, but it functions as well as it did when it was brand new.

I own one beautiful Singer treadle sewing machine. Yesterday I bought a ‘Jones’ sewing machine, and I’m just over the moon about it! I have been looking off and on for about 20 years. My maiden name is Jones, so this was important to me! It needs some refinishing, but I’m not going to be as extensive as you are here; it’s in pretty good condition, the machine itself is very good. The big thing is that the decals on it are excellent, not scratched at all. I don’t even know if you can buy machine decals. Are they available anywhere? I so appreciate your videos, they will help a lot in repairing the veneer that is lifting in places. Thank you!

Thank you thank you thank you!! I've been passed down 2 Nichols & Stone rockers that I want to pass down to my 2 children. There is just one question. I noticed on one of the bottom legs waaayyyy too much of some type of glue was used. What is the best way to approach correcting this?? Your suggestion would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you for video!!!! I think it is time for me try to do the same with my couple Vintage Danish lamps. 😍 But the only one... I was waiting and waiting when you will clean brass finials.... And you didn't. 😭 You gorgeous lamps looks like Princesses with "Hairclips from the Dollar Store". 🤔😂 Thanks again! Amazing job! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

These came out great! I acquired a Lane first edition MCM highboy in very good shape but not sure how much clear finish is left on it. It is not shiny. Would it be safe to use the dawn, water, and tsp to clean it? If so, how much of each so you use? There is an odor from the home I really need to remove. Thanks!

Getting ready to embark on an 1861 singer restoration in it's original cabinet. I am watching all of these because I've no idea what I'm doing. The woodwork yes. But the machine no. It's been electrified and I want to put it back to its treadle function. it's in its original cabinet! I can't wait to see her clicking away. Gonna be great when it's done. But preparing for a lot of learning!

Really lovely to see the children engaged in craftwork, WORKING with their HANDS. In the UK, craftwork has been abandoned in schools and my husband really resents this. Actually MAKING has been replaced by those damn mobile 'phones. We often clean wooden items using a weak but fairly hot solution of caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) rather than paint stripper. Gloves and eye protection are needed. Oak and elm are very forgiving. Love the bench! Best wishes from England, Veronique

How do you fix the hinges on the fold down table top that are sagging like someone put pressure on it? Not the sewing machine hinges. The table top hinges. Do you have to just replace them? Help!

I recently re-finished a piece that the entire face of the drawer was a molded plastic piece. I removed them and refaced it with some 1/4" ply. Crazy to think of the ingenuity they had back then to make cheap things look more ornate. I was wondering if you were gonna replace those plastic pieced with a wood laminate piece that youcould match to the fronts. Other than the plastics, it looks great. Thanks for the tip on using the wax. Seems to be more of an "organic" way to fill in scratches or voids than with epoxy. Great work!

The problem is these dowels are the weak point of this chair design. The back leg set dowels creep apart over time no matter what glue is used. When the dowels creep out of the dowel holes enough they lose strength and break. There needs to be a fix to prevent the dowels from backing out again over time and use.

I replaced the self-propelled cable but as I try to hook it back up, the motor cable, which I didn't even bother, seems 4 inches too short now. If I put the tightener thing on, there's no hope for hooking it all up. I think the self propelled would work, but id still be missing 4 inches on the other cable. Or else I could not hook the tensioner up. Apparently you can't pull the black plastic lining of the cable through the tensioner any farther than where it stops. So I'm still wondering where the other 4 inches is supposed to come from. There's plenty of line, but you can't access it because the tensioner stops it. Help!!

Any idea where to get the laminate from? I recently bought this style cabinet with machine but the laminate appears to be birdseye style. Unfortunately it's heavily damaged from water rings and the laminate is lifted and ruffled along the edges with a few missing pieces of veneer.

I had my drive cable replaced and it still did not work when I got home (15 miles). I looked at your video and was able to move the cable housing down 1 inch like in your video and it works fine and I did not have to go all the way back to town.

Larry, I understand completely. I am a leather worker and had a channel years ago, before YT monetized. My hope was to promote my brick and mortar store. But, like you said, I had nowhere near the video ability of today's videos, and I found that I spent so much time moving the camera around and then finally editting dozens of clips, that each product took 3 times longer to complete. Anyway, if you still read your comments I do have a question. I am refinishing a Lane kidney shaped coffee table. I have the matching side table in mint original condition, so was hoping to get a similar match when I stain it. It's sanded now. What is your opinion on gel stain? I don't want the ash and walnut looking the same if that will be the result of gel. I did a Lane Acclaim table before and the dove tail feature looked too light with Danish oil finish. I don't have a big shop area to work in, and no capability of spraying the finish. What do you think?
