Such a beautiful job! It gives me inspiration! I have a nearly identical set, inherited from my inlaws. They bought it after their home was destroyed by a tornado in 1966. The table is in near-perfect condition--two of the leaves are drop-leaves and then there are three more leaves. But the chairs--oh my! I've re-covered the seats once in the 20 years we've had them, but they now need a total overhaul. I had considered buying new ones, but you've given me new hope! Heck, I'm only 70--I could get another 20 years out of them!!

As usual - nice job. The dining set is not by Broyhill but part of the Perspecta line by Kent Coffey - similar lines but not exactly.

You did an incredible job restoring the table! I'm new at this - but wondering if it would be possible to stain the top darker to conceal the stain completely? I understand keeping it lighter esthetically but wondering if this is even possible? Love the finished product!

Peroxide will significantly reduce pet urine odor from fabric, I don’t know how it would work on wood or how it would react with any oxalic acid residue. Just a though.

I don't, however I did a set of Heywood Wakefield tables using a prepared product. Take a look at those videos and if you contact the folks at werefinish.net, they can help you with that.

Great job, but I have to ask: given the weakness of the used furniture market, would you ever put that kind of time into a similar project and expect to turn a decent profit? Even if the set cost you only, say, $100?
@LostMountainRestoration
@LostMountainRestoration 3 жыл бұрын
This set would have produced a profit as it was MCM. MCM style furniture still has a relatively strong demand here. Thanks for watching!

Just found your channel ☺️ I bought a Broyhill 1966 something?? It's a table with 3 leaves and 4 chairs. It needs refinished in the middle of the table is a small 1/2 inch burn mark into the wood. It appears someone tried sand it because I can feel a slight indentation. Hope I can fix that ? Anyway HOW do I tell what model of table I have ? It's oval ? The chair look sorta like the cane back ones but no cane just wood. I've looked everywhere !!! Hopefully I can get maybe even a small clue from you ? Thanks new sub

Absolutely fascinating transformations. Question: how much would it have cost to remove the veneer and put new veneer on the entire table top and leaf, factoring in costs of how you did refinish?
@LostMountainRestoration
@LostMountainRestoration 3 жыл бұрын
Re-veneering was my fall back option. Notice the grain runs across the table, not lengthwise. It would have required two 4X8 sheets of walnut veneer as well as some kind of edge banding which I would have been able to conform to the curved and slanted edges of the table. I decided to move forward with refinishing based on those factors as well as the fact the grain in the new veneer probably wouldn't have been as nice as what was on the table. Had I experienced any further trouble in the refinishing process, I would have suggested re-veneering. As far as labor cost it would have been similar or even more time consuming to re-veneer and finish than to do what we did. Great question, hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

@@LostMountainRestoration Thank you for the thoroughly explained answer. I don't build or refinish but suspected new veneer was an option, if the original veneer could be completely removed. I think the reason for my question was based on perhaps one day eating a meal at the table and suddenly smelling urine. Seems like you've eliminated that possibly with sealants. I'm sure the young couple owning the table have watched the video and appreciate your time and extra efforts on their behalf.

Great job as usual! I have a question an I hope someone here might know the answer. Does oxalic acid work on mahogany? I have a mid-century french dining set and I would like to lighten the table top as it has become almost black. Many thanks and have a lovely day!

Apologies if you've dealt with this before, but how do you set the volume control knob on your gun when spraying lacquer? I've read from others that as lacquer doesn't easily drip they leave their volume control knob fully open at all times, but I've recently had mixed results with this. I'm back to having it more closed and then opening up gradually if I feel I can comfortably spray more volume without causing clouding and overspray. Just wondered what your methodology is (almost everything else i've learnt about restoring furniture has come from this channel so thought I'd ask!)
@LostMountainRestoration
@LostMountainRestoration 3 жыл бұрын
I just do it by feel now. I really don't think about it. There are a ton of videos on KZbin regarding setting up a spray guy, perhaps they could be helpful?
@stjamm
@stjamm 3 жыл бұрын
@@LostMountainRestoration Thanks Larry - it's less the mechanics on setting up the gun, I've done a lot of spraying, I was more just interested in your take on set up for what is quite a specific task. I did however forsee your answer being the one you gave me! Appreciate you taking the time to respond.
@LostMountainRestoration
@LostMountainRestoration 3 жыл бұрын
@@stjamm Sorry if my reply missed the mark. I leave the 2.2 nozzle in the gun and my flow adjustment is about 3/4 open. Again, I don't pay much attention to it and adjust what I'm doing based on how the lacquer is spraying that day. I truly feel the "recoil" of the gun and based on that feel and what I see going down I adjust from there. As long as the lacquer is going on smoothly (no "snow" and no runs), I think you will have it licked. Thanks again and best regards.
