Craig, not sure if you've ever seen this before, but I highly recommend polishing the faces of all your hammers and dollies. It will leave you a much nicer, smoother finish compared to rusty bumpy ones, and rusty or lightly crusted ones can leave weird marks of discoloration from the rust being hammered into the metal.

Cans of 2K clearcoat are perfect for small projects like this where you don't wanna get the spray equipment out. They've changed my game. The high gloss is like a piece of glass when you're done. The flat/matte turns out fantastic too.

@@AnythingWeThinkOf In my experience, nothing beats the Spraymax brand, though it depends on where you buy it. Apparently shops can buy the machine to fill the empty 2-part cans with their own product so quality could be hit or miss.

Looks great. For the Plastics use Brake Fluid DOT 3 is fine. If and or when you goto tig the grill use material from another grill from the same year I.E. cutting off wide slivers, removing the anodizing and use that as the filler it will match the metal better.

It looks great in my opinion when you take the original and make it look really great like you did more power to you it's something about it when you can take a old truck and use existing parts you done something but I understand there's a point where it's just too badly gone to be repaired but your hard work paid off

I had a 1970 Ranger in high school. I couldn't afford to keep up with everything it needed and had to sell it. I really wish I had never had to do that. I've been looking for another bump side, but around here, they are either too far gone or really nice. One day, maybe I can get ahold of another without paying too much. Mine was a 302, 3 on the tree. The column shift was completely worn out and sometimes would get stuck between 1st and 2nd, and the steering box was adjusted as tight as possible and still had 180⁰ of play. What a death trap.
@possumwerx
@possumwerx Жыл бұрын
Sounds to me like you had a buncha worn out parts. You probably had shot cab mounts. Probably had a wasted steering coupler at the end of the column. People call it the rag joint. Probably had worn parts in the steering linkages and also bad kingpins. Oh yeah, there is no adjustment on the gearbox. That screw and lock nut is how the factory set the tension for the worm and gear inside the box. If you crank it down then you'll kill the box so don't do it. When you have slop at the steering wheel you start with looking at the rag joint and the cab mounts first. Then you check the king pins and every part in the steering system working backward until you get to the steering gearbox. On trucks it's normal to find all the parts worn out and sometimes the steering gearbox is ok. Also check the frame at the box for cracked frame or rust out. The thing about old trucks is they almost always need a total overhaul of the suspension and most of the steering parts like king pins and ball joints. Be honest with yourself and check everything then spend the dollars needed to get new parts and put them in. Don't assume anything is good or bad. Find out with each part do you know!
@davidvaughn7778
@davidvaughn7778 Жыл бұрын
@Possumwerx it's quite possible EVERYTHING was worn out. That was 1995 or so, and I was 16. I'm almost 46 now. I truly wish I still had that truck. I plan on buying another if I can find one that's not too far gone. That truck taught me a lot of things!

They are out there, rust buckets to total restorations ready to go. You might have to drive a long ways to get one. Or fly! Figure out exactly what you want for engine and options then get to know the market across the states while you save. Jump on one when you can get it because they can go fast. Hope you get your truck!
