When mounting the radar at the masthead, four short lengths of the stainless cut off for the arch could have been used as spacers. As for eye protection; please, please Taylor - you've only one set of eyes; look after them! Another note, when working at height, ensure all tools have lanyards secured to you - the damage that a cordless drill could do to either the roof (or someone below) when dropped from 50' doesn't bear thinking about!

When using a reciprocating saw, the plate at the base of the blade should be pushed tight against the part being cut. That eliminates the bounce and the cut goes through quicker. Put some tape on the plate if you're worried about scratching.
@clarkrobins6937
@clarkrobins6937 2 жыл бұрын
I was also thinking that with all of the cutting of the stainless, the residual from all of those cuts will rust and stain your topsides like you won't believe. I would drape those areas completely before cutting, but certainly do you best to completely clean those areas thoroughly. Any of the stainless that has made its way to the deck that has not been removed will make itself obvious sooner than you think as well. Good luck.

Proper safety glasses should be worn when using power tools but are extremely important when drilling metal. Washers or spacers that fit over the bolts would be a better choice for adjusting the radar clearance than wedges . Lock washers would be a nice touch. You'll probably be okay, but it's not the kind of job one wants to revisit once completed.

Good progress, nice work. I find that using hex head fittings vs. Phillips when in difficult to access locations is easier / better. Also rings and other jewelry when working with ropes, engines, electricity create a potential to hurt your hands if the rings catch on something at the wrong time. More than one person in history has lost a finger or all the skin on a finger due to wearing rings at the wrong time. Keep on keeping on and good luck with the retrofit.
