Great reflections for 2024! My goals for 2025 are to get out as much as I can and expand my photographic interests. I recently added a drone to my gear collection. I'm trying to learn to find different perspectives of interest and how video can enhance landscape photography. I started an annual habit in 2016 of making a collection of my favorite ("best of") images of the year. When I go back and review them, I can see changes in my skills and style. I also see my favorites reflect how much I liked the places I visited. Maybe this year I need to learn to separate my emotional attachment and try to learn how to objectively judge my own work. I wish you a great 2025 building on your successes from 2024.

Thanks Jon! It sounds like you have some great goals for 2025! Drones are fun, I have one, but I don't fly it a whole lot, I've been spending too much time in national parks! I like the idea of adding in a best of collection at the end of the year. Image review is a good thing and it is probably nice to see the change in skills! And how tastes change over the years. Objectively judging work is so hard. So easy to attached to certain images because of the story or the effort that went into them, which to be fair, is an entirely valid reason to enjoy one's own images. Have a great 2025!

Great reflection on 2024 Jeff! Nothing like a good plan to start the new year off. I like your idea of expanding on the more intimate shots, I do think there is a market for that type of photography. Most landscapers focus on the more traditional shot that everyone has instead of the more abstract and intimate composition. I think we all can improve on editing and that is something that I plan to focus on in 2025. I also look to maybe piggy back with a photographer or two on a workshop just to gain some experience in doing them myself in the future. Like I said before if you are ever looking for a sidekick I'm not far away down here in Northern Kentucky. Take care my friend and congratulations on 5K subscribers.

Thanks! Glad you like the video, and I agree, having a plan going into a new year is super helpful! I think my favorite thing about small scenes images are that there is *always* something to photograph. Can't get to some grand scene? The local park probably has something that you can make into a cool image. Go to a grand scene, but overcast (or clear blue sky) and you can still find something interesting. I'll keep you in mind for the Hocking Hills workshop!

I took far fewer images during 2024, basically because of my spouses illness. We are both 72 years old. My photography was very local. But looking back, I am pleased with the photos. Just being able to get out and 'in better tune with nature' I think may have helped me be more creative. Best wishes in 2025 and I look forward to more of your videos.

Sorry to hear about your spouse's illness, hopefully the photography has been a moment of relaxing. I'm a big advocate of practicing locally and really embracing those small scenes. I find it much easier to get familiar with places I can easily revisit which over time can result in better images. Thanks for watching - I hope you have a great 2025!

Interesting video. 2024 was the year I finally took more time, among other hobbies, to learn my Canon R6. I'm pleased with how some shots came out but definitely need to work on getting better when taking "big scene" landscape photos . However, like you I think I may focus more on smaller landscape shots while still trying to get better at wider scenes. In the early part of 2025 I'm going to be getting familiarized with my new Canon R5. I do have some specific goals as far as locations some of which are on the north & west shorelines of Kaena Point here on Oahu. Each side of the point offers vastly different terrain that I think will be fun to shoot. Other than that I plan to have at least one camera with me on most of my frequent hikes in our mountains and valleys. Happy New Year.

Learning the camera is always nice to help keep things flowing in the field. I think it is one of the reasons I will likely never move off of Nikon cameras, they just feel so familiar and I don't really want to re-learn a system when I am pretty efficient with what I have now. (In fact, familiarity with the system is one of the reasons I rarely use my M43 cameras these days, it always feels like a blocker out in the field to fumble through the menus). Location goals are good! I think my 2024 had location goals, as I needed to scout some workshop locations. I don't think I have any big location goals in 2025, save for maybe trying to make that early fall conference in Colorado, which is associated with a location I guess! Thanks for watching - hope you have a great New Year!
