you have to remember since this is your first year, you are going to be planning ALOT more. but in the long run, it will help your career. all of the products you are creating you will already have prepared and you will have your lessons to look back on in the future!! love you girlie. so glad that your year is going amazing and i love your new setup!! ALSO...just get ready for me to keep adding...ya know...lol!! my kids tend to fall apart at the end of the day too. thats when you want to do really engaging things, partner work, group work, get them talking, get them moving. It will help alotttt!

All the work you are doing this year will be so worth it when you start your second year!! One tip for planning that I learned from a teacher in my school is to plan on day of lessons for the next week each day. For example, on Monday plan next Monday's lessons, Tuesday plan for next Tuesday....etc. Even if you don't get through all of your plans for the week or have to tweak things a little, you will still have lessons planned out. Since you plan on subject at a time, you could plan one subject per day for the week. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my doorbell!! Funny thing happened this week....a teacher came in to pick up her class. Right when she walked in I just happened to press the doorbell to get the class's attention. She thought the doorbell was because she opened the door and was looking all over for it. Lol.

Good idea! I don't know if I could do it every day, but I for sure need to spread it out a little I think!!! And that is the funniest thing ever!

You make me so excited to be in my own classroom! I am already stressing myself out about all the classroom management, lesson planning, etc that I need to have for when I do have my own classroom (I graduate in May). Watching your videos helps me with the stress I’ve been having so thank you!

The first year is so overwhelming! You seem to be handling it ok, though. Keep it up! Your positivity is infectious! :) It's my 8th year in education, and I am a high school teacher, but I can tell you it gets better and way more manageable.

I also teach first grade in Tennessee and we have math after lunch as well. It is hard we to keep behavior under wraps during that time. This is my second year teaching. Lots of work, but I love it!

Yes! I tried something different (more engaging) with math on Friday and it was so much better!

I work at an out-of-schools-hours-care centre in a primary school (australia), and we use a lot of tools that teachers use. The callback we have is "1 2 3, eyes on me!" "1 2, eyes on you!". The kids are really good at responding to that, and the room is dead silent afterwards (this is a space that often has between 30-40 kids). I'm actually starting my bachelor's in primary education next year (got my offer today!) and I've found that my job has allowed me to get some incredible hands-on experience with the kids (and their parents!) and I feel excited to one day be able to actually teach them something. Side note: today I tried to explain to a younger child the concept "physical" and "not physical" e.g. a physical letter, and an email. That was interesting!

Yay! I am so happy for you! I would love to visit Australia. One of my first graders is actually from there. His family is so incredibly nice! And yes that seems like quite the concept to teach a little one! Good luck, friend!

You have to work on finding the sweet spot of communication. You don’t want to say all negative but you also don’t want to sugar coat a lot. I spent a lot of time making Kindergarten stuff my first 2 years and once I had a ton done. Then I was moved to 4th😂 The irony! Luckily, I love both❤️ You’ll learn as you go along!

This is my 5th year teaching and I still struggle with time management. It's hard when every class and every student is so different, even each day is so different. You never know what all you are going to get done and how long it's going to take. Maybe eventually I'll figure it out! This is why it is so much better to over plan than under plan! But if you do under plan...STEM BINS!!!!
@MrsCallsCampers6 жыл бұрын
So true! haha! My go to's are usually practice your sight words, read to self, or stem bins!!!! :)

My elementary school did the clap callbacks which is they clap a beat and the kids clap it back. Now whenever someone claps a rhythm I clap it back. I’m in 9th grade.

The primary teachers I know swear by putting math block in the morning. They all say the same as you about math in the afternoon. If you can shift your blocks, maybe that’s an option?
@MrsCallsCampers6 жыл бұрын
I like that literacy is first because they are more focused and it's more important! (But I also can't switch blocks haha)

Dude I don’t know why I didn’t use timers last year... Its amazing. I started using KZbin timers this year for all activities, displaying them on my projector. I’ve been giving them slightly less time than I think most actually need then by the timer goes off I’ve been getting kids saying “Wait wait wait!!! One more minute! One more minute!!!!” 😂
