I would love that, but more than anything I would really like Justin to also play guitar in whatever supergroup or new project he does. He’s a great singer of course, but also a really really masterful guitarist. The world needs to know! I would say Wolfgang on lead, Justin on guitar (and possibly vocals, fine, if they can’t find anyone else) and Dave grohl on drums! Don’t get me wrong, I love Justin’s voice, but his guitar is on another level!!

Justin is one of my favorites guitarist 🤩! I just feel like the rock scene has been long overdue for a supergroup and these guys have lightning in a bottle here! Getting together in any capacity regardless of who played what instruments or sang ( they all have good vocals) it would be phenomenal! I’m certain that they would all take turns on leading guitar/ drums/ or vocals on an album!

Ok, so thanks to you Robb, i just went down a mini youtube rabbit hole, watching a couple of audience filmed (!!) clips of the Level 42 track and what i thought was, if one is of a certain age, you know this song inside out, you probably sang along to it many, many times in your bedroom, so to me, the pure unfiltered joy you see in Justin’s face in this performance is so real and relatable. Also, you can hear him say ‘thank you’ to the guitar tech who brings his guitar on stage for him mid-song. Justin Hawkins: officially the politest man in rock😂

The only tribute we need, I wouldn’t want Roth anywhere near an EVH tribute, Micheal Anthony was due to be sidelined. The VH camp couldn’t organise a root in a brothel with a fistful of $50’s.
@topjimmy772 жыл бұрын
@Richard Harrold my preference is for Roth era VH too, but DLR is no Dave Grohl, he won’t be interested In honouring Ed, it’ll be all about him, the bickering between him & Sam would cheapen the whole affair. Michael Anthony, was due to be left out & he’s probably the only one interested in doing it for the right reasons. Joe Satriani on guitar? Wolfgang just showed us twice who should be on guitar. Wolf has honoured Ed both with the track & video Distance & the Taylor shows. If he feels that it should be left at that, then I agree.

As an elderly millennial, I got to see the transition from no smartphones to smartphones at shows. I went to rock shows most frequently in the early 00s. It was an excellent time. I took photos with disposable cameras and eventually took some shots with a digital camera. I was able to snap some shots and still be in the moment. Nowadays you can't go two seconds without seeing a phone screen staring back at you, especially during the more well-known songs lol. Every now and then, I reminisce about my show days and I'm finding, as I'm approaching 40 (👵🏽), that my memories of these early 00s shows are becoming more and more faded with time. That makes me so fucking sad. I wish I had a smartphone during that era because I could look back on the videos and use them as a memory aid 🤣 There's a balance to be had. There's nothing wrong with taking short video clips at concerts, but I find it so distracting standing behind a bunch of people with blue screens in my face. I was at a show a few years ago and a dude was live streaming it to an audience of exactly 0! Lol. Anyway, record those videos people, but goddamn please put the phone down for the majority of the show.
@sethdognaux79662 жыл бұрын
its nice too be able to go back and watch vootage that is hard to remember . I would think maybe if there were more professional shots and videos taken then people would feel leas compelled to grab for the phones . I can def relate to your comment tho
@ijustneedmyself2 жыл бұрын
@@sethdognaux7966 It would be so nice! In all honesty it hadn't even occurred to me until recently that I might actually be able to find footage of some of those concerts. A couple weeks ago, I saw myself in a video from 2003 😅 I would bet at least some people would feel less compelled if there were more recorded shows available. But we're in the day and age where people want to show others where they are and what they're doing all the time so I'm sure that plays into it why people record as well.

Two observations, for one LA is Van Halen home turf, so going out there with Wolfie, yeah, we love that. My friend was up close to you guys in front. She's not even a VH fan and even she went live on social media with Wolf playing that solo for "Hot for Teacher." This was our personal soundtrack growing up. A lot of us had passing interactions with band members, like I once said "Hey, how's it going?" to Ed late one night at a liquor store in Hollywood. Before they made it big, they were all very accessible, and all kinds of people would go to Ed's mom's house in Pasadena to chat guitar. Going to the market around the corner, right by my friend's house, there's a "Van Halen" carved into the curb done by the brothers when they were still teenagers. There's quite a VH legacy in Southern California. The other observation is that when it comes to this plague of phone recording, I think of my Buddhist upbringing. It pulls you out of living in the moment. I understand completely taking a nice snippet as a souvenir, like a travel snap, but the people who just stand there recording the whole thing are really missing out on the actual experience, which seems sad to me. Unless they have an actual physical memory problem, it seems they would be more fulfilled by the lived experience than owning a vid that nobody is going to watch.

I didn’t know who you were until the Taylor Hawkins Tribute. I grew up with Van Halen. So I paid close attention to who Wolfie was playing with. Now, you’re one of my favorite You Tube channels. I love how you call shit….shit….when need be. Not everything can be great and you call a spade a spade in a typically polite British way while simultaneously thrashing the subject matter. Carry on my good man!

About filming. I was in LA for the tribute concert. I was filming some parts too, basically because my mom is also a fan of Foo Fighters and she asked me to send her some videos. I’m a Russian teen who lives in NYC alone, so I felt that I have to share this moment with my mom, who’s in Russia, too. The ticket was her birthday gift for my 18th birthday. I feel like it’s important to find a balance between filming and just enjoying a show. LA tribute is the most incredible thing that has ever happened to me and filming some parts of it wasn’t a thing that kept me away from dancing and singing. Thank you for the concert, Justin :)

Having been front row to one of your shows in Canada, I was very aware to not record like a ton of your show. I got a quick picture here or there, maybe a snippet of a song or two, but that's about it. Mostly kept the phone away and enjoyed getting my face melted off!

Jus, I am so grateful to you and your channel &commentary. You have taught me so much. My great local music friend said that you and Paul McCartney were his two favorite living artist’s. Which turned me on to you ( I said mine were Fiona Apple and Jeff Lynne)
