As I finished my final sim session at med school today, I took some time to reflect on this journey and had the scary realisation that things could have turned out very differently IF i would have listened to my negative thoughts and not made the decision to start studying for those GCSE’s 7.5 years ago. It always blows my mind to think we are all only ONE decision away from a totally different life I really want to encourage every single one of you out there thinking about a career change to go for it! No - you are not too old No - you will not fail No - people will not make fun of you You will on the other hand (if you choose medicine) feel an immense sense of purpose and fulfilment. You will have so many opportunities to have meaningful discussions with patients and relatives. You will connect with people who are their most vulnerable every day. There is such a need for doctors from diverse backgrounds - pls never feel you are not good enough! Take all the experiences you’ve had and use them to your advantage! I’m always here if you need guidance ❤️ So grateful to have finished all teaching at medical school now! Nearly finished! 🥳

What made you choose medicine and not nursing?

Well for a start, they are completely different roles. As a doctor you have full responsibility over the patient which in my mind, is a bigger challenge which I thrive on! You are responsible for the management of the patient (meds etc) which again as a nurse you are more likely to administer these as apposed to deciding which meds would be the most suitable. So many things! But as I say many people think that doctors and nurses do the same thing but doctors are just in charge of the nurses. This is not the case at all - nurses are amazing and play such a huge part of any team. Our roles are just different ❤️

Glad you said the last part as I’m a nurse 😂, however, feel very conflicted in my role. I’m very frustrated as I want to have a more active role in patient diagnosis and treatment. As such, I have decided to pursue a career in medicine and your inspirational videos have certainly helped plant the seed, thankyou 😊

I’ve also worked as a nursing assistant so can appreciate both roles! They are just very different roles ❤️
