Hi everyone! Thank you for being here!
In this video, I take you through a string of 4 on call day shifts as a resident doctor in the NHS. I hope it provides you with some valuable insight into what life is like as an FY1 here in the UK.
My name is Becs, a very non-traditional FY1!
My journey : I self-studied my GCSE's at 35, completed an access course in Manchester and went on to study medicine at Bristol Medical School. After 7.5 years of hard work, sacrifices and dedication, I now work as a doctor (and LOVE my job :)
I will be emigrating to Australia as a FY2 doctor this August and plan to make lots of videos about finding a job, the paperwork (and costs!) and what life is like as a doctor down under.

Thanks for the vlog Becs, very useful to see. I will be starting FY1 in 18 months (in 4th year of medical school now) age 40 with 3 kids - thanks for showing us what is possible when you are dedicated and work hard. I will be requesting to do FY1 less than full time, thinking 60 or 80%, so I can hopefully get that work life balance right. Looks very intense!

Thank you for this vlog Dr Becks. I didn’t have the best experience with a GP when I was younger but if I had you I think I would of completely been inspired to study medicine. What's made you decide to go to Australia? How long do you plan to stay for?

Yeah Australian emergency departments particularly on the Gold Coast are going to show you what it really means to be a doctor. You haven’t seen a shitshow until you’ve seen a Friday or Saturday night shitshow on the Gold Coast. Assuming you’re joining GCUH…good luck bec!
