Reflections on the BMW E32

I've had a 1989 730i with a 5 speed manual gearbox for over two decades now. Performance is noticeably better than the automatic and on a run I can juuuuust squeak 30 mpg although 23 is the average - too thirsty for me so I rarely use it. It's done 500,000km (over 300,000 miles in real money) on the original engine and the head's not been off yet. That's 6000 mile oil changes! Mine has black leather and cruise control. It's had paintwork over the years to keep it nice but no welding as I always kept it clean underneath and Waxoyled behind the sill covers. The original clutch lasted until 306,000 miles. It was still okay but was becoming heavy. It's important to check the camshaft spray bar bank bolts and do the lock wire modification. I prefer the E34 as it's usefully smaller without really affecting the ride, and the E38 as it's better looking and nicer to drive. But, I'll keep mine forever. It's a good old bus.

Brilliant video, I absolutely love the big 7s, e23, e32, e38. Such clean, simple lines and very understated. Love the E32s, and your experience definitely mirrors my experience with my E34 540i - I used it as a daily for seven years, and it was perfectly adept and untaxing in that regard. These models are a quantum leap ahead of their predecessors (both of which are very clearly cars of the seventies), and they stand up to scrutiny well.

These cars have a very "strange" "peculiarity" compared with most new cars !!!!!!!!!!! . They are known as "RELIABLE" ........ lol ............ honest ... i hate new cars 🙂 . If BMW had made a 7 series diesel estate ...... best car in the world ..... but never did 😞
