Great resource, perfect for students of all levels. Really helped to finally make reflective writing sink in and the team explains the method brilliantly. So glad I found this before starting my second year, finally I understand reflective writing! Thanks to all the team for the time and effort they put into making this, especially with your own demanding roles and studying 👍

This is a game changer for me. At school (I live in Switzerland) we've learned about portfolio writing and in those I did good according to the feedbacks. But I've specifically had problems reflecting situations of my practice, situations with clients. I was in need for information on what it needs to reflect precisely, effectively, critically etc. because no one so far did/could provide further information. I wrote mostly the story and could not express my thoughts, the connections etc on paper. I will write down the tips of this video and refer to them for my reflections to get better. Thanks so much for sharing the video!

Very beneficial webinar. Is there a way to practice reflective writing as a student who is not in direct practice yet? Especially for reflective assignments. Any feedback is much appreciated.

Is this form of reflective writing limited to interactions between individuals or can you also reflect on the system your working in? As an example (I’m a support worker starting a social work degree in Sep) I was recently asked to log service users’ personal possessions, including sentimental items. I felt this aspect of "service user finance policy" was obviously a violation of the person's privacy and oppressive. I took the advice in this video, started writing and now think there could be a 4000 word essay there! However, i did notice all the examples in the video are about interactions between people, not between a person (the worker/student) and the system they're working in.

@@siobhanmaclean9614 Thank you so so much. I saw a book Theory and Practice. A straightforward Guide for Social Work Students online and bought it. It is just now that I realised you the Author. I recommend to anyone starting the career easy to understand and keeps one interested. It is the first text book that I have genuinely returned to read without blitsing the house first. Thank you.

So in those examples of reflection, which reflection style did you use? I’m getting all confused because l thought we reflect using a format for example Gibbs Model Description, feelings, conclusion etc???
@siobhanmaclean9614
@siobhanmaclean9614 3 жыл бұрын
You can use a model to structure your reflective writing, but that is not essential. The examples I gave were very brief extracts and could have fitted into aspects of a model - for example they may have fitted within the knowledge of section of the Big 6 model, or they might have been included in the analysis section of Gibbs. If you watch more of the webinars on reflection that may help you. Essentially I would advocate looking at a wider range of models rather than just Gibbs.
