Logging companies should be required to replant all the species they logged, not just one variety
@fionamcwilliam87036 ай бұрын
To truly help the earth we need to be replanting with a mix of all the local species and not just one. A mix of different trees helps the biodiversity of an area whereas planting of a single species creates more problems in the long term.

Great achievement by Tanzanians. Shows they care. There are many blessings by the reforestation of open areas. It will prevent erosion, increase bird and animal life, wood for the future, forests are good for bee farming, tourism, water conservation and many more Well done. Don't stop

Needs to be a polyculture rather than a tree plantation. Monocultured tree plantations do more harm than good.

Keep up the good work, god can bless the actions to restore land destroyed by whatever reason including human activity. At times he might help with rain cycles at tether times he might send aid from other countries which might be in the form of education or technology to speed up the process to plant or dig ditches that can restore water sheds….

This is a tree plantation pretending to be reforestation. This depletes water and soil.

Traditional farming communities in Korea developed a system called JADAM, which has been proven to be used to make the land more alive. Namely maximizing the use of plants that have certain ingredients that are adapted to local conditions, livestock manure, mineral salt water, and other materials that are easily available nearby, then connected and integrated with the food chain system between plants, animals and humans, including the use of microorganisms. . I have started applying it to several areas of land that have been damaged, because the humus has been lost due to mining activities on the island of Kalimantan, Indonesia, where the condition of the soil is very similar to the condition of dry desert soil and is almost rocky. This effort is showing very good results and if this is tried to be applied on the African continent and other desert lands, it seems that it will slowly improve naturally and bring benefits that move very quickly. Greetings from me in Indonesia and it would be very good if the JADAM system which was pioneered by agricultural experts in Korea is try to implemented too, to make and organic fertilize of land. Please see this method which has been widely broadcast on many KZbin channels, as a reference. Good luck and greetings to a healthy and green earth.

is this reforestation or a monoculture for future logging? i guess it doesn't make a difference if your goal is carbon sequestration, plus there's an economic reason to fund this if its for commercial logging, but its not reforestation as i would think of it.

To be fair, this a mono culture used as a financial vehicle to launder huge amounts of money and get it to the "right" people. But please continue..

@@jeanrichardson2044 This can deplete groundwater and soil fertility rather than add it. It's a project that defeats any regreening gains.

In a forest, when a tree dies, part of its organic matter is stored in the soil and enriches it. When a tree dies another takes its place and in turn stores carbon. Trees create biodiversity in and on the soil and prevent soil erosion. They retain water and cool the air, thus creating a microclimate through evapotranspiration. The carbon cycle is normally in balance, but man, particularly through deforestation, has disrupted this balance. According to the IPCC, the AFOLU (Agroforestry, Forestry and Other Land Use) sector is responsible for a quarter of our greenhouse gas emissions.

@@b_uppy Soil fertility has gone down? Well nothing a shit ton of organic fertilizer can’t fix. Groundwater level low? Then irrigate them, simple as that. You planted those trees so take care of them, at least until they reach adulthood
@b_uppy7 ай бұрын
@@yancgc5098 It's an issue of lack of healthy soil biota. Adding organic fertilizer is a temporary fix, because it would dessicate with solarization, lack of shade, lack of plant biodiversity to support soil, etc. It's important to plant biome-appropriate polycultures to get true benefit. That's different from saying "they must be all natives," or "only one in so many plants be useful." It's much less work and maintenance to grow stuff that thrives, rather than fight it with high maintenance expensive inputs. This includes using livestock to assist in management instead of other methods. There are several key benefits with using soil friendly methods: 1) Better water sequestration. 2) Better nutrition in both plants and livestock products. 3) Better diversity in the overall market. 4) Better overall resiliency and food security. More profits, less red line inputs for growers. 5) Less wasteful practices with resources. Wastes are utilized on the spot and turned into profit instead of points of loss. 6) Healthier, more resilient plants, wildlife, livestock and people, and resultant lower costs associated with that, etc...

The slow evolution of Mankind now is in the more complex stages. Like young children given toys by parents, these evolving societies have to "break" their toys first to understand how they work and why they broke. Only when you break something, then you can learn to fix it. But some damages is too severe and whole species and even Human communities will suffer a sort of extinction, a cultural annihilation and loss, like lost languages and cultures of antiquity, modern day peoples and habitats are under extreme threat. Can we afford this loss? Even if we realize our mistakes, can we turn back and return a place, a set of lost species and cultures to their origin?

Those "forests" they are planting are monoculture and will fail. There needs to be a variety of species and this appears to be just the same kind of tree planted by the thousands.
