2:35 if you heat your CaCO3 putty (at 835°C+) the carbonate should decompose into calcium oxide and CO2, maybe that'll make it cure. Maybe a lower temperature would do too, if the silica is prone to react with CO2, dunno... EDIT: Ah, you did :) Probably increasing the temperature gradually over a long period would prevent it from swelling and make it cure all the way.

The carbonate in calcium carbonate is bonded with the lime CaO. So it’s not free to set the waterglass
