So i'm looking to buy a 144hz monitor around black friday next week. I built my PC primarily to play rocket league with friends but I do occasionally dabble in fps on PC as well. I knew the benefits of having the higher refresh rate for shooters but wasn't aware of it helping in rocket league as much. Thanks for the laid-back informative video.

I played with vsync on this whole time and could dribble the ball for 5 seconds max I’ve turned it off and with a day of practice I’m hitting 180 flicks and can carry the ball for over 30 seconds

240hz monitors can be found for way less than $600. Alienware has one, often around $300-$350. The only reason yours cost so much is because of G Sync, which is basically an extra $100-$200 slapped on top of just the monitor itself

Do you notice a benificial difference between 144hz and 240hz. I run 144hz Asus swift but am tempted by 240hz just for RL.

I do notice a difference between 144 and 240, but it isnt as big of a difference when comparing it to 60 and 144. I'd say that if you have the funds to buy a 240hz monitor, go for it! For a game like rocket league, 144 is probably all you really need but if you want that extra competitive edge against your opponents, then you should go 240hz.

I’m playing rocket league on 165 hz and there’s on the top right there’s things showing my FPS and other stuff it’s very annoying

You might have accidentally enabled some of the performance graphs within RL. Check if "Performance graph" in "Interface" settings is set to off. You can also cycle through them with F10 until it goes away

144hz has come way down in price recently. Cheapest I can find it is £130 in the UK, which is fantastic! The only thing that's stopped me from upgrading is my poor GPU. I have an RX580; while it's not exactly a weak card, I already run 2 monitors, and I plan on having the new 144hz monitor as my third, centre screen. My card won't be able to handle that and still push RL to 144hz, but as soon as I can afford a current (or the next gen) cards, I'm jumping on the 144hz bandwagon.

I stopped playing rl even though it was my fav game. i had over 2,5k hours in the game yet i still got stuck in c1 or high d3 after 2,5khours!!!!!! Im buying a new gamer pc and monitor im either considering 144 or 240 hz, then imma try downloading rl again, i refuse to believe i deserve d3 or c1, slowly my ps4 got slower and slower, so if i can't blame tm8s i blame my slow ass pc which coudln't even play warzone or fortnite without lag.

Any idea why rocket league would be capped at 155fps? I went to nvidia settings set it to 170hz. In game settings uncapped or at 170 also. Capped at 155 :(

I have a monitor with an Xbox and my rocket league is still only playing 60fps whereas a game like minecraft plays at the new 120fps do you know how I can fix this

That is probably a hardware limitation of the xbox and/or the devs limiting the framerate to 60fps on xbox. Rocket League probably wasnt able to run at 120fps so they locked it to 60fps. I don't own an xbox, so unfortunately I wouldn't know if there is a fix for that or not. Maybe it'l run at 120fps with the upcoming xbox and ps5!

You might want to check if you have Vsync enabled or the FPS limited in the game or within your GPU's control panel thingy. Rocket League tends to be a more CPU bound game, so your GPU could be strong enough but, it could be held back by your CPU not being capable enough.

I honestly have no idea if it will or not. I feel like it could potentially do 1080p 120hz but, I'm not too sure about 1440p or 4k. It's sort of up to Psyonix/Epic Games if they want to push for 120fps or 4k 60fps on the Series X and PS5 (Which I hope they choose 1080p 120fps for a game like this, or at least let people choose between 1080p 120 and 4k 60).

i really dont think that fps over 60 makes that much of a difference in rocket league, but it does look nicer. fortnite for example has a drastic difference of responsiveness and smoothness because you are moving so much. i play 120fps on rocket league and i say for the game, it is more of a visual enhancement than a super duper big advantage

From a casual perspective, yeah you probably don't need more than 60fps, but if you're playing at a higher level, you would most definitely benefit from the higher fps. You're constantly moving really fast in higher ranked lobbies, so the responsiveness and smoothness would definitely help. Now, you don't *need* 144 or 240fps to be good (just like in any game), but it's very beneficial to have since the pace of play can get really fast in higher ranked lobbies.

I notice it makes my friends look like they are lagging when I play with pc players while I’m on console. Like they almost skip where my monitor just can’t keep up with them. Maybe I just had bad ping. But I swear It is much harder to lag when playing at a high rank on console with PC teammates who have high frame rates

I went from 60 to 120 to 144 to 280hz and can confirm 280hz is the best for responsiveness and smoothness. The difference from 60 to 120/144 is huge but the difference from 144 to 280 is small but still noticeable.

so what about free sync an gysc do people turn it on or not i never see a single youtuber talk about it cep rocket science but he jsut kinda explains what it does. personally on my amd rig i have an adaptive sync toggle button on my monitor which is mg248q. however i also have the option to turn on freesync in the control panel of radeon. but theres more if i go into game profiles theres another sync button called enhanced sync, and tbh unless all are on at same time it not smooth all the time. however i do feel there re moments when the amount of input lag im feeling moves about and its super disconcerting. for now i have turned everything off and am just running it at standard 144hz but what are your thoughts?

I personally have a GSync monitor and I do notice a difference between having it on VS having it off. It doesn't take me long to get used to having GSync turned off but, it feels so much smoother with it turned on. The main purpose of things like Freesync and GSync are to eliminate the screen tearing while removing the input lag that normally comes with Vsync/Vertical Sync being turned on. It a nutshell, it constantly changes the refresh rate of the monitor to match your framerate for optimal smoothness. Only issue is, your framerate wont go any higher than your monitors refresh rate, since it would introduce the screen tearing again. So, if you were to have a 60hz Gsync/Freesync monitor, you would be capped to 60fps unless you turned it off. Since you are using 144hz, this wouldnt really be that much of an issue. If you prefer to have the smoothest gameplay, I would highly recommend Gsync/Freesync monitors. I've never tried Freesync before but, assuming it works just like Gsync, it would be a good choice. A lot of people don't notice the screen tearing or don't care for it, so it would also come down to if you notice the screen tearing a lot when you play. Also, I believe Freesync requires an AMD graphics card and GSync requires an Nvidia graphics card in order to work.

No, run Rocket League at the highest FPS you can while still keeping graphics good enough to see across the pitch. If you have a 144Hz adaptive sync display it'll be turned off when frames go above 144 anyway.

I would say uncapped fps unless you have a high refresh rate monitor with Gsync or FreeSync. Even then, it comes down to preference. If you notice the screen tearing when having an uncapped fps, setting your fps cap to your monitors refresh rate may be best to avoid frame drops and just having a smoother experience

I'm frustrated having the original Xbox one because I want a higher frame rate via a desktop and play it on pc, but it's gonna cost me a significant amount of money for a gaming desktop just for the benefit of running rocket league for a higher frame rate

@@cmlisk6 I've personally never tried to run a Gsync or freesync monitor on an Xbox One, but my best guess would be that it would not make any difference, or at least a very tiny difference that wouldn't be enough to justify purchasing one of these monitors. The best thing to do, in my opinion, would be to save up for a gaming PC along with one of these higher refresh rate monitors. The prices of these monitors have gone down since I made this video. Maybe in the future we'll see consoles with the ability to get higher framerates instead of them preferring 4k.

If it's within your budget, I would suggest maybe a 120hz or 144hz for rocket league (or 240hz if you wanna spend the money for it). 75hz is still better than 60hz though, so an upgrade from 60hz is still a good idea.

Most likely not. I don't even think Rocket League has 120fps support on PS5 at the moment but, HDMI isn't capable of 240hz yet as the HDMI 2.1 is only able to achieve 144hz (which is still fine for ps5/xbx). It may take a bit before 120fps comes to Rocket League on PS5 according to a Psyonix dev: "“Enabling 120Hz on Xbox Series X|S is a minor patch, but enabling it on PS5 requires a full native port due to how backwards compatibility is implemented on the console, and unfortunately wasn’t possible due to our focus elsewhere,” explains Psyonix in a statement..." Source: www.theverge.com/2020/11/20/21579166/ps5-120fps-games-support-developer-rocket-league You would still be able to do 120/144hz on the 240hz monitor given that it has HDMI 2.0 or 2.1 (and that you have an HDMI 2.0 or 2.1 cable) but, you wouldn't be able to take advantage of 240hz unless you were on PC. Best thing to do right now is to buy a 120hz or 144hz monitor that has HDMI 2.0 or 2.1 ports.
