thanks! this works for me EVERY time!! the trick for my printer is to leave one cartridge in so it sees that it has only one cartridge then when you put the others in it fully recognizes them. Sometimes it shows that they are really low, if that happens I just repeat this procedure with those cartridges

Thanks, I was quite skeptical and bored to tears over this, but your advice actually worked. I left in the cyan cartridge, pressed OK, it said cartridges not installed. So I turn it off, insert black, yellow and magenta. Now it recognizes them, but says "non-genuine cartridges detected. Continue? [yes] [no]". I select yes, and now it prints normally.

So so grateful that I came across this video! In the middle of printing a birthday banner the printer decided it no longer recognised the cyan cartridge. I'd tried switching on and off numerous times & taking the cartridge out & putting it back in but obviously hadn't got the order right - thank you!!

Printer manufacturers really annoy me. The amount of stuff they do to try to force you to buy more ink from them is crazy. They give you an "ink not recognised" error at every opportunity, won't let you print B&W if any colour cartridges are "empty", and they've got more ink buying buttons and messages and reminders than you can count.

Worked!!! Epson XP-820 - 1. Choose Replace Ink Cartridge - Take ink cartridge out. 2. Turn off printer - WAIT 5 Min - Might be to allow caps / Printer memory to fully discharge. 3. Turn printer back on. Printer will search for missing cartridge and tell you to install it. 4. Put cartridge back in. Note: A) Installed Epson Printer as Administrator / Win 7 Compatability in WIN10 64 bit. B) Ran Nozzle Check on "NEW" cartridge. All is A++++ THANK YOU!!!! Amazing!!!! Epson Compatable cartrideges.

Hi Matt. Yes me again. I have the Stylus SX130 almost new. Once the original inks ran out, I found a good supplier (I thought) and bought a pack of 4 (3 colour and 1 black) plus a free black. I put the black one in almost straight away and it worked fine. Then yesterday fitted the 3 colour ones and got "cartridges not recognised". Sent 3 colour replacements free from supplier. Same issue. Your hint here worked brilliantly! Thanks a lot. You're a God send. :)

I tried your method several times to no avail. I would turn the printer off for 10-20 seconds and turn it back on, install the cartridges and nothing. I reviewed the steps and realized I was missing one step. I had not been drinking a cup of tea. Being American, I made a cup of coffee and... it worked. I encourage viewers to do this most important step - the tea/coffee is important! Thanks!

Thank you! Doing this worked with a new Matte Black cartridge ($140) that my Epson Stylus Pro 7700 would not recognize. I did the power-off Matte Black removed and the ink cover door open. Upon re-start, none of the four cartridges that remained in place were recognized. Once the new Matte Black cartridge was reinstalled and the door shut, the printer went through a process, and all five cartridges are recognized.

I had to print an train ticket, and my printer picked the absolute "best" time to give me a panic attack… Thought I was going to have to go to go bug a neighbor and have them print it for me. The tea calmed me down from my panic. When I return, I am going to get a laser printer and never go back to any kind of ink jet. Cheers!

Worked for my Epson SX435W had to follow the remove, turn off, replace cartridge, on two cartridges, but it printed. I'm British and like tea and coffee, but I substituted with what else during this strange time, with a bottle of Corona Beer! Many thanks.

Whenever I throw an old used cartridge away I prise off the circuit board with a sharp knife and keep it to one side. If I ever have problems with a new cartridge not working I'll try replacing the circuit board on the new one with one from an old one. The circuit board just presses on and they are easily interchangeable. I've never had to do it yet as even though I have had the occasional problem with new generic cartridges not initially being recognised, I've always got them working by just taking the cartridge out and putting it back in again as described in this video. But if that ever does fail to fix the problem, replacing the circuit board will be the next thing I try. It may not work if the circuit board actually stores information about how much ink it has supposedly dispensed (and that's the method it uses to predict remaining ink levels), but the chip may also be just an 'electronic lock' used to make it harder for generic ink cartridge manufacturers to copy an original cartridge. If it's the latter then I see no reason why an old chip wouldn't work. If anyone else has any success with this method before I do, please update this post.

my espon didn't take my ink I tried a real espon ink it didn't work, then I tried two compatible inks it still didn't work. I tried everything blowing the chip wiping it. and it still didn't work! DONT EVER GET AN EPSON

You can always try resetting the printer, it's usually a recessed button on the back that you need to hold in while you power up the printer, however that's a last resort. It's conceivable that the firmware on the printer refuses any cartridge after compatible cartridges have been detected. That's not very ethical though, so it would have been ditched in the meantime. Try updating firmware.

my epson was doing the will not recognized cartridge warning too, i tried every thing under the sun to fix it and no luck until i remove the old prom chip contacts and put them on the new ones and that did the trick. my printer is the xp-320 with 220- ink cartridge's.

Best buy, library, otger stores arnt open for qurantee and i need to print off my insurance card for a new driving job and it wont even print black and white because the colors r "empty". If you get with your Epson Printer "ink out error". I had this with my epson inkjet L355 printer. Tried inkpad reset, did not help, tried reset it with a software to its initial settings, and did not help. Finally I found a solution: Ink Reset Codes for Epson L100, L200, L355, L800 - enjoy! Before using Ink Codes You can try to reset Ink Levels following this instruction: 1. Press Power button - printer will turn OFF and wait 10 seconds 2) Hold Paper button, then press and release Power button- the printer will turn ON and Power Green light will start to blink 3) Release Paper button and press again for 10 seconds 4) After 10 second release Paper button and press for 1- 2 seconds again and release. That's all. This works for all Epson L-series.

So it goes something like this. 1: Power on the printer if it's not already on. 2: Follow procedure for your model to remove the faulty ink cartridge. 3: Close the printer unit and allow it to reset the head and display any error messages. 4: Power it off and wait a few seconds. 5: Power it back on again and allow it to display any warning or error messages. 6: Follow procedure and reinstall the faulty ink cartridge. 7: Close the printer unit and hope for the best.

Sorry it did not work in my case. My printer Epson SX515W gives a warning "can not recognize ink cartridges" when cartridge carrier is empty. This warning does not clear even if I switch off the printer empty over night. Any suggestion please.

the problem occurs because the Epson updates (which can be difficult to 'cancel the update") have program in it to Not accept (display says "replace" cartidge) any cartridge but an Epson cartridge. You also are accepting this , stated in the 'fine print' of the update contract, when you update your printer. The Supreme Court of the US decided that any brand of cartridge should be accepted upon purchase of your printer, (LITERALLY), however , Epson's 'fine print' in the updates makes you agree to only use their brand cartridge if you accept their update. Now there is another LAWSUIT in process to get triple your money for the forced use of Epson brand cartridges. WOULD YOU BUY A CAR IF YOU MUST BUY GAS FROM ONLY THAT MANUFACTURER? NO

WARNING : you will have to either listen to or fast forward the first 2 minutes and 45 seconds of jibber jabber before the 20 seconds of pertinent information is given and of course it may or may not work. This will save you some time and frustration. Take the ink cartridge out Turn off the printer for 2 minutes Put the cartridge back in that might work for you.

if you use a non genuine ink cartridge, you have to make sure that the new cartridge doesn't break a reader pin in the printer. the really cheap refills they sell on ebay and amazon have a plastic spike on the bottom of the chip that doesn't be melted down to a smooth finish. when you take out the cartridge to replace it, the pin will hook onto it and come off. that pin is the on the bottom row, middle pin. without it you get the "unrecognized cartridge"

What type of tea do you recommend? I have a couple types of green tea on hand, including a mother's milk tea. This type of tea is best for milk production in lactating moms, but I'm unsure as to whether it would work for printers. Thanks

So I looked at the old one and the new one and I realized that it has two different dot to dot stickers that are two different patterns! What happens if more then one cartridge is unrecognised? Change them both at the same time or do one then the other? Happens to me a lot and usually when inks are running low but by no means empty (Epson Stylus SX130) so extremely frustrating. Just bought a chip resetter as I thought it would be easier & quicker but despite paying almost £15, it doesn't work - yes I'll have to contact ProPrint and ask. Anyway thought I'd ask. Thanks.

I have a WF 2630 Epson. replaced the black/not recognized/saw they were 200 i's. my replacements were 200" S. can't find 200i's anyway this is the only difference but can't be the problem. they're identical
