Whirlpool Refrigerator Control Board W10310240A.
Maytag/ Whirlpool control boards are a common problem in these fridges. The control board is busted when the display lights are flashing, the ice dispenser door is flapping between open/close position, there is a clicking noise and the compressor starts for a second then shuts off, possibly
the refrigerator is constantly clicking or beeping.
This board may be the same in your - Amana, Maytag, Kenmore, KitchenAid, or Jenn-Air refrigerator.

This video was fantastic. I followed the instructions to repair my 12 year old Whirlpool Gold fridge. I ended up having to change all 8 provided capacitors - I was getting nervous after trying with 5 swapped out, and then 7-yikes! But with a little patience, it was a piece of cake. Thanks, from a fellow Canadian 🙏🇨🇦

Excellent video, I fixed my Kitchen Aide refrigerator model: KSCS25INSS01. American home shield's repair contractor replaced the inverter but that did not fix the problem , so he gave up. I then found this video, made my own repair and now my fridge is working fine. I bought a solder kit on amazon for $10.00 and had someone help me with the solder sucker. The work took about 1 hour and I have very limited mechanical skills.

Thank you so much!!!! I was thinking about changing the whole control board until I saw your video. Ordered the capacitors at the place you recommended and was fortunate to have a friend able to change the capacitors. I got them all changed, put everything back together.... and now the fridge is brand new again!!!! So thank you again for your video....and for the funny part at the end where you are enjoying a cold one!

I rarely comment on KZbin, so please understand you have motivated me to take action and sincerely thank you for sharing this information. You made it very clear exactly what needed to be done and shared valuable information that I wouldn’t even have initially thought to look up, and then saving me time to do so! I was able to order the parts and install them using your instructions as a guide, and now the KitchenAid refrigerator is back in operation. I ordered two sets of replacement capacitors, and taped the next set on the rear of the refrigerator because having them means less than an hour to fix the controller board!

If you replaced the caps with quality brands like Panasonic, Nichicon, UCC or Rubycon you won't have to replace them again. JUst make sure you use high temp versions (105*C) and they will no doubt outlast the fridge.

Capacitors have a shelf life, if you leave them taped to the back of the fridge for years they probably won’t work when you go to use them.

I had this problem with my fridge after having my power service switched over and figured it was the control board. I inspected the board for anything obvious and saw a little moisture underneath the 25v 47uF capacitor. So I researched it and came across your video. I checked the cap and it was OL both ways. I changed the capacitor which I got at a local electronics supplier for $1.19. CAD. I had found a board on Amazon for $247 CAD so even if you include gas to get it I’m still way ahead. I did pick up all the caps for $10.05 just in case but only needed the one. So I have the others if I need them. Thank you to you and your video for saving me at least $220.

I repair these boards all the time and every time I remove the old capacitors I test them and let me tell you, most of them are bad including the small ones so replace them all before the small ones cause a problem to your new ones. The only one that doesn't have to be changed is the biggest one on the board because every time I tested that one it was almost like new

Had that irritating flapping sound from the ice cube door. Based on this and other videos, I looked at the control board capacitors and did not notice any issues. I ordered the capacitors anyway but in the mean time simply cleaned the contacts using electrical contact cleaner. It's been a week so far without the flapping issue. Edit ... And on the eighth day it started again. I changed the capacitors as per the this video and works so far. Thanks for the video. Edit #2 ... The replacement C13 capacitor was exactly the same specs but failed within 2 hours. Replaced the C13 capacitor with the old capacitor (I think it was C12 - 35v 680uf) and seems to be working again. Maybe I got a bad capacitor, or the specs were not actually the same. It was a Panasonic cap so I thought it should be good.

Next time you do rework add some solder before desoldering. The factory solder has a higher melting point than the stuff you have on your roll. Adding your solder will lower the overall melting point making it much easier to desolder.

You switched to to a larger "Soldering Iron"..NOT a soldering gun. Holding those Elecrtrolytic Capacitors with a Vise grip is a NO, NO. You might end up squeezing them to hard causing the Electrolyte inside to leak/damage the capacitor itself. Looking at the control board I was able to see the components which make up the switching power supply and it's full bridge rectifier or Voltage regulator. Those capacitors dry up, thereby causing the problems. I am a retired bench technician.

Mine is the same board. I hear the ice cube flap only once when i first plug it up, but the lights do the same (light up only when a button is pressed). I bought a replacement board and it does the same thing. I checked the capacitors on both boards in-circuit with a multimeter set on 200k ohms and I can see all capacitors charging up on each board at the same speed. (they'll max out either at "infinite" (OL) resistance or to any resistance in the circuit that's parallel to the capacitor. Smaller ohm settings charge the capacitor up too quickly to OL to see it the effect. All this indicates it's not the board in the back, but in display control board in the front, but its caps check out too. Small SMD caps charge up too quickly to watch them accept charge and are more likely to have parallel resistance, but you can at least check that they are not shorted.

@@danc2014 yes of course and I understand not everyone has a degree in electronics, I do. I'm curious what brand of caps were on the board, or did they even have a brand name on them. The final cap you changed looks like it's next to a TO3 pack IC which is probably a regulator, a bad cap on the input could for sure cause problems. Okay first a few tips on desoldering components. A solder sucker is a good tool, you don't need to put paste on solder wick, before trying to heat a solder point you need to put a little solder on your soldering iron's tip then apply to solder point. Once it is flowing then use the solder sucker, do the same for the solder wick. Doing this will make removing the solder that much easier and prevent you from ruining your board in the process. I've been designing and repairing electronics for about 40 years so follow these few tips. Best places to order parts from is Digikey or Mouser, unless you have a small electronics wholesaler near you. Digikey has cheaper shipping than Mouser, at least to Canada. Good video sir.

I am working on the same board for a friend. The last cap you were asking about (C23) is a Rubycon. Surprisingly all the caps on the board are Japanese (Panasonic, ELNA, and Rubycon). I will post back later on my findings for which caps are bad when I test with an ESR meter.

I have the Maytag W10310240A refrigerator control board. I have ordered the repair kit you recommended and I am waiting for it to arrive. I had read your “limp along” fix about putting a hairdryer blowing on the circuitboard and that the refrigerator would operate. And that’s what I’ve done for the past few days. And the refrigerator has operated normally. None of the capacitors are bulged but I figured the one next to the heat sink was probably my issue. While I wait for the repair kit to come, I found locally a nichicon high temp 47 µF 25 V capacitor that goes in the C 23 socket next to the heat sink. I replaced it this morning and unfortunately, when I put everything back in place the refrigerator will not operate at all. So I lost ground and replacing the C 23 socket capacitor. Looking for any thoughts on how to proceed from here. Thank you for any insight you may have. Danny Schulze

I have a Dometic 12v RV fridge (capacitor -- NOT absorption though both use control boards) and one thing that has been brought up by users is how frequently these control boards go out. Unfortunately, no one yet that I've come across has indicated WHY they go out or what (if anything) can be done to repair the boards rather than shell out $$$ for a replacement board. This is an AC appliance in your video but do you have inkling as to WHY these capacitors fail? have you received any feedback from viewers who have found that it's ONLY that one capacitor that you eventually replaced that is the one that fails or is it a random selection? I'll continue to research for RV fridge control board repairs but just curious if you have any insight into this problem. Maybe it's possible to do an easy fix for these RV fridge control boards? Wouldn't that be nice!

You have 666 subscribers, I’m definitely not a religious person but something about that 666 I don’t like and you sound like a nice guy so I’m going to subscribe to your channel so you have 667 subscribers.

Gloves eliminate oil from hands And you must control static electricity when working any electrical board hence the gloves.

@@tonybrinkley3699 Ha-ha, I would worry too much about that, the odds of blowing the board by handling it is very low and oil from your hands, unless you just pulled your hands out of the oil vat then again don't worry about it. How do I know, I've been designing electronics for decades.
