This video was super informative. Possibly saved me $200-400 over what was just ice build up around the fan that circulates air. Thank you!!!!

Great video! Thanks to you, we discovered ice obstructing the evaporator fan blades and were able to resolve the small lawnmower sound ourselves without waiting on and paying for a technician. Thank you so much!

I had the same issue. Fixed it in 20 mins including emptying and refilling the freezer. With the occasional home repair, it's been going strong for 23 years and counting.

Thank you, thank you!! You just saved me from buying a new fridge! My fridge threw a SY EF code, so I followed your steps and discovered that ice had built up and got lodged between the blades and housing. Once I removed the ice and plugged in the fridge, the evaporator motor started up!

This saved me lots of time and money! There was ice build up on mine as well. For all the noise it was making, I was sure I'd have to bring in a repairman or replace the whole fridge. Thanks for making such an easy to follow tutorial that even a not-so-mechanically inclined person can do the job!

Hey where can I get a fan and motor for fridgidaire GLSZ28VGW 220 volt
@jamesculp36227 жыл бұрын
i opened up the section of the fan and did not have to remove all of the top parts to get at it. Once it was open I saw ice had dropped down and was hitting the fan. Making a racket. Pulled the ice out turned it on and it runs quite. :) Not sure where the ice is coming from but it's working quitely for now. Thanks

Spectacular Video. I had to replace the motor... but the breakdown was fantastic. Frigidaire refrigerators are so consistent in design... mine is a newer gallery series but internally identical to this one. Took it apart and did the replacement with complete ease. Thank you for posting.

The video instructions were good enough for me to clear the evaporator fan blades of ice and solved the problem, but.........half the video was of Steve's back instead of what he was working on. Surely they could have positioned a camera and lights to show how and what he was doing during the repair.

Very good. Thanks. My fridge runs quiet now. Turns out for me water turning to ice was forming behind that evaporator panel and droppings on to the fan which caused a lot of noise your could hear all over my house. Motor and fan blades were okay. Also, the plug for the ice maker/auger was completely iced over. I'm not the only one using this fridge, so I don't know what it's happening with it during the day and night, but how can I stop the ice forming behind the evaporator panel?
@chriswurzinger76855 жыл бұрын
While I found the video helpful, I must agree with another user's comment below - no idea why he takes the whole ice chest, ice maker, rails, & top panel out. You can clearly see that the evaporator motor/fan is in the center area and easily accessible without doing all that. I just pulled the bottom panel down and peeled the top panel up. I didn't notice any ice buildup although it could have melted while I was working on it. The fan spun freely in the motor.

This is a great video and he makes it look easy. But....once i saw that there are 4-5 steps before you even get to the motor.....I'll pay someone to do it! Wish I was as handy as he is! Well done video!

Why would you need to replace just the fan and not the motor? I have this fridge and the fridge side is warm but the freezer is still cold. Do I just need to replace the fan then?
@davidhall29127 жыл бұрын
Awesome video. Not my fridge but close enough and I was able to use it to replace my Evaporator fan motor. It went out 10 months ago and I paid 400$ for a repairman to come over and take a week to fix it. Apparently he put it in wrong initially and spent 6 days trying to figure out what else might be wrong before going back to the motor / fan and realizing he put it in wrong. So I spent 80$ on amazon this time and did it myself. Hopefully part of the reason the last one went out after 10 months was due to a bad repairman. I have a frigidaire side by side but its newer it appears, and counter depth which this one might be too. Hard to tell.

Part of the issue I think with the freezer is the spout for the water entering the ice maker us U shaped and water spills out all over the fan motor and causes ice build up. It is a very poor design and seems like it is still being made that way. At leas the one I bought in 2008.

Awesome video - thank you! I too had the ice buildup issue, and cleared that out so the fan now spins freely. One aspect of the view I was unclear about - my fan assembly seems to just fit gently in the space, but I see you mention some sort of mounting bracket or piece that initially had to be pulled away. Is there a way to see more about that? Thanks!

Usually emptying the fridge and freezer and thawing long enough with a fan melts and clears any ice blocking the fan and it all works again.

Make sure that the ice bin is pushed firmly against the auger drive forks. With the bin pulled out and the door switch closed, does the drive fork rotate when you select ice?

My refrigerator (FRS23W3AW6) is no longer cold, though the freezer portion of the unit is plenty cold. I suspect the evaporator fan motor has failed. Steve, does the fan spin constantly when working properly?
@partselect6 жыл бұрын
Hi Ryan. There are a few reasons that this may be happening: 1) The Evaporator coils have too much frost on them. Check that the defrost heater is working. 2) The defrost thermostat is not working 3) The defrost timer is not working 4) The fan is inoperative To answer your question, the fan cycles on and off with the compressor. The fan also shuts down during defrost mode. To determine if you have a problem you can put the fridge in test mode. To do this: 1) Press and hold the "Freezer Temperature UP" and the "Freezer Temperature DOWN" buttons at the same time. 2) Release and press the buttons together twice more within five seconds to enter the diagnostic mode. 3) Press the "Freezer Temperature UP" button when the LED displays "1" to toggle through the different service menu tests, which are numbered 1 through 8. 4) Pus the "Fresh Food Temperature UP" button after selecting a service test to scroll through the options for that particular test. 5) Unplug the Frigidaire power cord for 30 seconds and reconnect to exit the diagnostic mode. I hope this helps, and feel free to reach out with any other questions you may have, or for help finding a replacement part for your refrigerator!

Thanks for your help. Just one clarification: My refrigerator (FRS23W3AW6) is a side by side model with two dials to control temperature - no buttons. Is there an alternate way to put it into test mode?

At Sheldon, check the water dispenser microswitch -when you depressive do you hear the water valve home if not the switch is bad. Disconnect water line at bottom of freezer door and try to blow through it you might have a frozen waterline.
@partselect9 жыл бұрын
3006USMC Great advice! I was just going to mention you will need to verify if the water valve is getting power when you depress the actuator pad. If it does, then you have a defective water valve and if not, the problem might be with the control board or the switch.
