1st down ruled intention grounding. Psu loses that down bringing up second down. On second down short gain bringing up third down. Officials call it forth down for no apparent reason. Who could argue with that?

why did you word it like that??? lmao. loss of down is 100% the penalty for intentional grounding. 😂🤣 the refs mistaking downs and causing a 3rd down punt? no so much. your wording made it seem like they ruled it wrong for taking a down away.
@pryingopenmythirdeye18303 жыл бұрын
The loss of downs is that it counts as your play . There were only 2 plays before punt. That is a loss of down. The play you just did was first down , now it's second down .. when they were 2nd and 16 the announcers even said it. Then they bring out punt team . So regardless it was 3 plays . There is no such thing as a penalty of losing a down you haven't played yet.

@NorthOfWindsor absolutely not. The overwhelming amount of egregiously bad officiating calls were made against Penn State, and Auburn did not receive the same calls. Nix throwing the ball into the stands wasn’t called for intentional grounding. The horrible placement of a 4th down conversion, despite the ball being well past the marker. Holding penalties against PSU pass rushers being ignored all game. Having to punt on 3rd down. The “late hit” call on Nix, despite no pushing, no wrap up, no extension of the arms whatsoever, and literally just having the momentum take him out of bound and into Nix. Then you have people claiming that the “DPI in the end zone by Penn State”, despite the fact that he was making a play on the ball, and the receiver was actually pulling on him and then tried to flop. These refs were calling against Penn State all night, and let Auburn get away with damn near everything. Their “errors” nearly cost Penn State the game, but luckily we’re still a great team and beat Auburn fairly. Auburn is frankly lucky that they were able to get away with as much as they did. The mechanic is that the box does not flip until the Linesman/Down Judge tells them to and they switch together. what appeared to happen here was that the box switched to two on the incompletion, then the loss of down was announced and since the box was erroneously already showing '2', the officials assumed it was the second down that was just played and switched it to third instead of keeping it at second. A good chain crew doesn't do anything until instructed by the Down Judge/Linesman, a smart crew might preempt the ref and do things on their own and cause these sorts of issues.

Auburn realized a true road game is a little different when it’s not a sham neutral site game in Atlanta or Dallas, which is a popular SEC strat. Now imagine this game being played in the expanded playoff… in January. This was their first B1G roadie in 90 years.
@jacobjohnston1263 жыл бұрын
You’re kidding right? This one of the most tone deaf comments I’ve seen even with all the crappy reffing this weekend. Auburn has a new coach and a new offense, playing in hostile environment (which doesn’t hold water compared to Jordan-Hare, according to Burrow, who knows a thing or two about football), and still kept it within a score. This isn’t a B1G victory. Penn State won at home by a touchdown against an unknown probably 8-4/7-5 Auburn team in development. It was a big roadie for Auburn but if Penn State wanted to make a playoff statement early they should’ve beat Auburn by a hell of a lot more, poor calling or not. Foolish.
@BHTheKid53 жыл бұрын
Oh, I’m dead serious, Skip Bayless burner account. How is it not a B1G win? Penn State literally won. Forget the game being a playoff statement. I never said that. My point is that the SEC is all about tough FOOTBAW but most teams refuse to go north of the Mason-Dixon (with the exception of Alabama a few years ago … once again carrying that top-heavy conference) and that they may have to at some point if the playoff expands. But you know, let’s play The Citadel in November. And I like Joe Burrow, but he never took a snap in Happy Valley. So I’m not sure that comparison to JERDAN HERR holds water. People can argue tough environments till the cows come home, and that’s fine. But don’t defend Auburn’s nearly century-long gap here when their conference is notorious for playing “road games” at neutral sites.

The punt in the Memphis game was never downed. Just touching the ball by a member of the punt team doesn't make the ball dead. The punt team has to actually posses the ball. The Memphis kid just knew the rules and made a ballsy heads up decision.

Didn't Brady throw a pick on "fourth" down anyway? Or am I thinking of a different incident?
@NoOneGHF3 жыл бұрын
For those confused by what "loss of down means," usually when a flag is called, there is some sort of yard change and then the ref goes "repeat (previous) down." However, on intentional grounding, the loss of down means they cannot replay the previous down so it just goes on to the next down. Thus, it doesn't mean skip 2nd down and go to third, it means skip 1st down and go to 2nd. If you want a comparison, both are in 1st down: Holding on the offense: 10 yard penalty, repeats 1st down Intentional Grounding: ball is placed where the QB threw it, goes to 2nd down

All NCAA games keep a journal of the downs in the prees box. The reason they keep a journal is for situations where there is confusion about what down is currently being played. @GordonMancuso2 жыл бұрын
@@drjekell01 If the Penn State coaches had been on the ball, there is no way they allow this to happen. They call timeout and force the refs to acknowledge their mistake. The fact that they didn't means that nobody was confident enough about what down it was to take a stand. All the offensive players immediately left the field after the false 3rd down. Everybody relies on the markers, nobody bothers counting to 4 themselves. Yes, the markers should be correct, and the people holding them up are dumbasses for not being able to do the one job they are being paid to do (seriously...count to 4 by single digits). But SOMEBODY on the offensive side of the ball should have enough of a sense of what down it is to put on the brakes in this situation.
