Kirby Smart had a good argument. He was saying that it was clear that the refs used instant replay as their basis to overturn the call as they were looking up at the Jumbotrons watching the replay on the field. The only penalty that is reviewable is Targeting. Had they over-turned the call immediately after the bad penalty call then it wouldn't be a problem BUT they did not. They clearly were deliberating on the field while the trash was cleaned up that Texas fans threw on the field. During those deliberations they were watching the replay on the field so Kirby was right. They used replay to overturn a call made minutes prior and that is against the rule book. If the Texas fans do not throw trash on the field and GA gets the next play off this "Review" never happens so in essence Texas was rewarded for bad fan behavior. I would venture to say had Georgia lost this game Kirby would have filed a complaint with the SEC about it. He may still to get it high-lighted and force the conference to put out a memo to officials for future consideration. In the end the officials were wrong here whether the call was bad or not.

Sec refs need to be investigated immediately
@kickstart3974Сағат бұрын
honestly, kinda split, obviously a werid situation and throwing stuff on the field isn't great. But tbh I really don't like the state of reffing. There are times like these when refs really botch a call, and in this situation I see nothing wrong with overturning a pretty bogus call. There needs to be more accountability on refs because very rarely do you hear refs getting disciplined. I get refs aren't perfect that's fine. However, there is a difference between making a mistake on a play that was hard to ascertain and completely blowing a call, the Clowney play comes to mind. This wasn't as bad as that, but still a gross misuse of the referees authority. It's like sometimes they feel too important and feel the need to throw the flag despite their being no real penalty.

If I was in charge of the NCAA. I'm putting out an announcement that penalties can be overturned by replay... and I'm announcing that before next Saturday.

@dpackerman4203Сағат бұрын
Yeah because that worked so well for the NFL… oh wait. Also you do realize how LONG the games will be if you reviewed penalties, right?
@JKeemTVСағат бұрын
@@dpackerman4203 It didn't work for the NFL because they refused to undermine their refs. It's inherently set up for failure if you're going to consider your referees infallible while constantly giving them subjective rules that will change by the person.
@dpackerman420351 минут бұрын
@@JKeemTV no, it didn’t work for the NFL because reviewing a judgement call that’s already been judged once is a silly thing to do. Sure every now and then you’ll get an egregiously wrong call like this one that’s so obvious but most of the time they’ll be ticky tack and the refs will not overturn them. In the end, you just get a bunch of pointless challenges that slow the game down. It’s a bad idea from the start. Just get better refs man. Don’t make them review penalties they already called.

I was at this game and while the reaction from the students was very inappropriate, it wasn't unwarranted. That was the single worst call I have ever seen. I genuinely believe that if that call wasn't overturned, more bottles would have been thrown onto the field and a literal riot might have started with the fans rushing the field

I feel like technology should be developed that can take referees judgement out of the game. I'm just so sick of human error and all at seemingly pivotal moments. I can't enjoy football as much anymore because of bad calls and being burned so often. Something like a tracker inside the football could take judgement and perception out of the game and rely on an unbiased system that could judge the call. I can't believe I'm saying that but something has to be figured out. It seems as if everything is manufactured. Everything revolved around Alabama and now it's Texas's turn again. They will be the new Alabama next year and going forward I guarantee it. The small guys will continue to stay small and the big boys will stay on top with the refs help. Georgia beat both the refs and Texas tonight. I can't stand either teams but it's a problem across the board. It's a pattern. 💲
