Having owned and daily using the M1 MacBook Air and the M1 MBP 14”, I have to say that these are the best laptop offerings out there. The MBA does all you need for on-the-go, online work. And the MBP14 just takes that up to the next level with hardware capabilities that more than any regular consumer would need. It’s incredible value for the price and even if they’re not the most affordable (to some), they are certainly more than their worth if used for productivity and work.

Agreed, a little more than half of my Apple computers came from the refurb store. Over the years, that's about 5-6 computers. I've never had a problem. And promptly sold each one about 18-24 more after purchase...just so I could get a new refurbished machine. I only stopped when work started buying my computers.

I just bought refurbished MBP 14 from taiwan’s apple store too. And it was my second time of refurbish macbook. For me,it was just brand new. The only difference was no colorful box. By the way, it have same warranty policy as the new one. But it could save more than 300us dollars,so that you could buy higher spec with same budget or save the budget to buy AC+.

Bought mine Apple refurbished as well. Oddly enough, it had a vertical line on the display out of the box (bad screen). A quick chat to Apple and 3 days later I had a brand new screen on my Mac. These are solid machines. Awesome value for the money with full warranty.

I’m not really surprised. The only difference between Apple’s new and Certified Refurbished products are the box’s cover and price, everything else is identical to new - so much so you don’t even really need to check for scratches (as the Mac inside is basically new).

It’s worth mentioning the Military Discount still applies to the Apple refurbished store. I purchased an M2 Air with 10c GPU, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB storage for $1,376. It was well worth it and indistinguishable from new. We also got a refurbished M1 Air for my wife from Best Buy because it was the same price to get the 512GB model from them as it was to get the 256GB base model from the Apple Refurbished store. If you’re getting a base model it’s best to buy from a 3rd party but if you want specific specs it’s cheaper to get it from Apples Refurbished store.

The only reason to go with new is when you do not want to wait until the refurbished store gets the goods. It generally takes about 4 to 6 months, depending on where you reside. Right now the store is very well stocked and you can pick and choose. I always like to see it this way: With the refurbished price you get the AppleCare+ for free. You get the same warranty and the laptops are flawless. Since Apple no longer print the serial number on the outside of the laptop they can easily replace dinged up parts. Most of these products have been returned within two weeks but they also move overstocked into the refurbished market. It is really a great service. When I bought mine there were no units in the refurbished market yet. I could have waited two more months but that is beyond the point. I am hooked into the ecosystem and since I can write the laptops off it does not matter too much. For my wife I did however get a refurbished laptop. Very well thought out content. I will be following the channel.

In my opinion Apple Certified Refurbished is better than new, not just for the cost savings but the refurbished products are likely undergoing more stringent quality checks upon being shipped compared to the products coming off the assembly line in China. In my personal experience back in 2008 I had an iPhone 3G I had purchased new that I took to the Apple Store because I had broken the silent switch and they gave me a refurb'd device. It wasn't until I had the refurbed iPhone 3G that I realized there were other issues with the "new" 3G I had that I had not noticed, battery issues and off-color display were the 2 that stood out. I'll shut up now lolol.

This was confirmed by a colleague that left Apple to join the company that I work for. She actually said that the refurbished Macs are subjected to very stringent testing and if it is more than 30 days old when returned, the battery is replaced

The only thing that is reused on a refinished mac is the mother board. The mother board is tested 100 percent as of it was a new product. The case, the battery, the screen, the keyboard and touch pad and the input devices are all new. The mother boards are ripped out of returned products. Then they are shipped back to the assembly facility and they go back into MacBooks as refurbished.

Wish i had seen this last week as I just did this. I think it was worth it but still. I got a 14in model in Space Gray, even more noticeable for scratches, and like this vid there was nothing. I am also not convinced that this laptop was ever used. The only clue that I had was that my original box it came it was a little beat up on the sides.

Not sure whats going on but at the time I am looking at the refurb models online, the 16" model is actually nearly $200 cheaper than the 14". Same M1 Max with 32 Core GPU, same 64GB of RAM, same 1TB of storage, and same Silver color. The only difference is the size. the 16" might be the bargain to get right now

my experience with refurbished Apple products is a different story. I got a refurbed iPad pro 10.5 3 years ago, but after like a year or so the battery is like shit. But new iPads I got usually see a significant battery drain after 3 years.

I always was aware of the existence of the refurb , but always bought all my apple products brand new, but I've tried this time for a M2 max MacBook Pro 16 inch 38 cores 32 Gb and 2 Tb , and like you I did a full check up ( I will add the fact to do a hardware diag on startup with magsafe attached to be sure the result are not flawed , and turn off external keyboard and mouse or trackpad too ) . i noticed only 1 cycle for the battery and via Drive DX I noticed that only 600 Gb was written to the internal SSD , everything is like new , and from what I've heard from apple employee , most of the recent Mac that are less than 6 months old are just returned products because of numerous reasons like a change of mind ... and now I swear I'll always buy from the Apple refurb , I've made a 650 euros saving on it . not a single scratch or mark ... really impressive , the only thing I forgot to check was the serial number on the box . thx for the tip. but the hardware diagnostic is important, turn off your MacBook Pro , unplug all things attached to the port , Thun off all; linked Bluetooth accessories, and just leave magsafe on it for the test to test magsafe port , turn hold on on Touch ID key in order to access the recovery partition , then just press command + D for a few second , it will restart in diagnostic mode to check all components. it's important to turn off external magic keyboard or trackpad cos in my case the Mac reported that the keyboard or trackpad could have an issue , same if you do the test without magsafe attached , it will report that it couldn't check the power port and there is maybe an issue with it . but if you follow my tips , you get the expected result P0000 no issues found.

I've heard of loopholes at Apple stores where you go ahead and "trade in" with intention of purchasing a computer at the store. They'll provide credit to your Apple ID. Then go home and purchase from refurb store and apply credit. Maybe worth looking into. No loop holes for financing though lol

These are NEW and unused, it would not be worth the costs to do as they claim, the same items as new but only a motherboard being original , add the cost of checking and the labour and it goes way over the production cost of the new machine. They just make a lot more and put these out as new with a moderate discount using up the old stock.

Iirc everything an end user touches is replaced on a Apple Certified Refurbished... So it's pretty much brand new. This checklist would be better utilized when buying a used or retailer refurbished MacBook.

Depends. You can get some models brand new from retailers for less than a refurbished. I just got a MBP 14" 16GB/512GB for $1599 from Amazon. From Apple a new one is $1999 and a refurbished one was $1749.

Nope, MacBooks do not get new batteries, at least in my experience, my MBP had around 300 cycles when i got it. iPhones and iPads on the other hand get a new shell, battery and screen (if it requires replacing).
