Thanks for sharing! I am working on a Guide 147 personally. Mine has molded plastic seats and I will be replacing them with seats like you have. I am going to also adjust the position of the seating to make it more comfortable to paddle solo. I also need to replace the yoke as mine has been removed. Have you any suggestions on removing scratches from the hull? I am not very worried about those, but it would be great get at least some of them out.

Before you drill new holes in the gunwales for re-positioned seats, try paddling solo from the front seat, facing the rear. Most times this works out fine and does a lot better job of balancing the canoe for solo use while still leaving the seating in place for tandem use. They are symmetrical so doesn't make any difference which way you face when paddling.

Woodenarrows Thanks! I tried that and was still too light in the front. going to add a center seat and try that out.

I had also thought about replacing the gunwale with wood to give it the old school look of a cedar and canvas canoe. Any thoughts on that?

I love wood gunwales but... there is a maintenance issue with wood. Be sure you're ready for annual work to keep them clean and in good condition. If you are, they would be a nice addition and look great. I've not done that work but you'll need to be sure they can be tied into the deck plates properly. I can't see that wouldn't need new deck plates as well. You'll need to consider if in the long run, it's worth the effort and/or the risk of screwing with the structure and integrity of the canoe. :-)

Woodenarrows Thanks! I didn't think of those issues other than the maintenance part. I was going to use an epoxy coat on the wood. Thanks again!...

My only fear is that the treatment is silicone based....and it will leach into the water. Maybe try some carnuba wax on it? If im not mistakin, carnuba wax dries clear, and you can use a buffer disc to get it to really shine, without leaving behind any chemicals that will leave an oil slick behind the canoe...lol Great stuff Brother, im looking for a cheap canoe for me and the wife so we can travel some of the streams and creeks here.

Hi there! What did you use to spray to make it glow?
@Woodenarrows9 жыл бұрын
Rey Caparros Photography That was "Black Magic Pro Shine Protectant" You can find it in the automotive section of most stores. I ended washing it off though, it was kinda greasy looking and I was concerned about environmental impact since it is a petroleum product. See round 2 video.

Hi, How can I repair deep gouges. I bought a used OT camper Royalex which have 3-4 long deep gouges 1/16 in. Deep. Thanks.

There are videos on KZbin that say you can used melted milk jug plastic. Royalex is a different breed. Also the Old Town website has/had repair kits available for purchase.
