Since this is a used container, we needed to refurbish the rusted areas before we stack it on the 3rd level of our container house. We used the wet sandblasting siphon from ‪@Northern_Tool‬ , and the 4400 PSI pressure washer from ‪@harborfreight‬ to remove the heavily rusted areas, and then we painted with the first layer of marine grade paint. As per usual you are taking time to do all the fine detail, I am sure some days you feel frustrated by it but the end product will be well worth all your hard work and there is light at the end of the tunnel. You did mention the front facing sides where there were some dents, if you have some bad ones that will alwaus catch your eye when the final finish is completed then think about using car body filler on them, but only the bad ones otherwise you will be there for months, just a thought if you want perfection otherwise just leave them as they are part of the story of your journey. Keep up the good work...

Thx so much for the suggestion!! We decided to leave the minor dents, although we did consider bondo for a while.

We've been recommended something similar but I'm not sure how it would factor into the paint adhesion

Look into “dustless blasting” they come to your site. Also, zinc or vinegar will prevent flash rust for a couple days after blasting. Additionally, the blast media that you use makes a difference in how fast you can blast the rust and paint off your containers.

I hear what you say about the rust near the ocean. My sister and husband were stationed in Oakland in 67. They had a 66 Chevelle and in the short time they were stationed there the rear window rusted out.

Hey there guys! I believe theres a way for not having that flash rust...right after the sandblasting, dry it, and then spray it with wd-40. I did that in a small project and it worked really well

How long did it take to complete the prep, blasting, priming and painting process (for one container--your best guess) Also what do you do to prevent flash rusting after wet sand blasting? Is there some kind of additive you can inject to prevent flash rust? For wet soda blasters they have a injector to inject an additive to prevent flash rust...just wondering. Great explanation of your project. Bravo!! Thanks

Thank you so much!! The whole process of refurbishing took about a week on average. We usually had to break the days up based on weather and sunlight hours. To prevent the flash rust I've read you can use additives but we couldn't buy any where we are. If you dry the steel immediately afterwards it usually is very minimal.

You can put your camera in a plastic bag and put a rubber band around the lens. Put a filter on the lens to protect it from the excess sand.

Thank you!! We've used a lot of different blasting material but the best for the price is probably coal slag

@@PacificPinesRanch - Coal slag is normally black. Are you sure that's what you used? When you had the buckets on the roof, that looked like coarse grain sand.

@@PacificPinesRanch i did that in some contruction iron bars and didnt have any issues...i sanded the the bars...and sprayed it with wd40....after that i wayted so it dryed....n then i cleaned it just to make sure it was dry....n finaly i painted it with my spray gun! Thus was 3 yrs ago! And it still doesnt have a drop of rust! Why don't you experiment in a small side/part of d container? Take care Rui

A bit strange... same time on KZbin, same journey, same build etc. 11.3k subs vs 1.3M subs, yall know which couple I'm talking about ;) They pull $35k per month on ads so... Maybe you'll need a KZbin promotor, like a good rock band, to get things rollin? But yall maybe fine as it is, I dunno? Great channel anyways, keep those vids comin! :)

They have a lot more videos up, a lot more frequently. I'm still working on it but I am very involved in the construction aspect of the house so it's hard for me to balance time between building and recording/video editing, etc. Hopefully I'll figure it out though! Lots of content to share.
