I thought this at first, but the rear end of the 240 is quite visually "heavy" as it is. The spoiler lightens it, a big DTM-style diffuser might be a little too much and accentuate the rear overhang too much?

Just an FYI about using EvapoRust - it strips rust off bolts but it also removes any protective coating or plating on them (bluing, zinc plating etc.) so they'll be naked steel and rust the second they get wet. When you've got good nuts and bolts with slight surface rust like that, definitely send them off to an electroplating outfit and get them re-done in zinc. Electroplating metal hardware is a whole other rabbit hole of car restoration to go down, but it can make a huge difference to finish and longevity.

Those quad lights look like the old DOT approved ones that were common for US 240's. Totally ruined the look and as a bonus performed terribly: two glowworms in a jam jar sort of light output. No idea how these led ones perform. The fashion in the US was to replace with Euro spec so you could actually see where you were going at night.

First use a hot air gun to soften the plastic and get the shape back. Flatten off the plastic the beat you can. If you have a tear or rip you can plastic weld it back together with a soldering iron and some similar plastic if you need to. @bobjohnson15872 жыл бұрын
For the most part I like what you're doing with the 240 but why would you want to tint the front indicators and rear lights very dark black? It just makes it much more difficult for other drivers to see your brake lights, turn signals and parking lights. There's a reason why such lights (bulbs) are rated at a certain candlepower and why Volvo went with the lenses that they did - to be sure that others can see them. When you cover those bulbs over with darkly tinted lenses you are just inviting trouble. After doing all that work on it do you really want to see that lovely 240 get rear-ended because a following driver couldn't see your brake lights on a bright day? (Btw some jurisdictions prohibit the use of dark lenses on such lights. I know where I live, they're banned. You may want to check before you further consider tinting the existing lenses.)

I've been driving these Volvo's - in one form or another - for almost 45 years. Yikes! lol I have even gone through 2 complete restorations on one of them and do all of the required work. Yes, they do require work! (I can't find anyone else who will touch them! lol) So, I have a fairly good knowledge of these models and I happen to like the look of quad headlights on these models. During a full restoration in '87 I had the dual rectangular headlights, that were OE on my '77 264GL, removed and replaced with the quad ones. I felt it updated the look of the car since that model from '79 on - in North America - had come with the quad headlights. So, I like the look of the quad headlights on your 240. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about those reflector replacements. Sigh! 😟
