Currently running the Elys on my Planar 3. Personally, I think it's a cracking cart for the money. The ND3 sounds like a great replacement.
@richardelliott83527 ай бұрын
the advantages of synchronicity are so elusive , yet can be important to a person like myself , who has neither the interest nor budget to experiment comparing a bunch of cartridges seeking the optimal result. in an effort to maximize my money , a bought the arm that was voiced to my Michell gyro turntable , a modified rega arm, hoping to benefit from whatever synchronicity might be achieved by old man Michell in his last design exercise. So I have always been interested the the rega carts, although I don't run one, because that mounting system is so attractive, offering the same cartridge mounting results without all the tedium. plus the prospect of achieving that elusive synchronicity is tantalizing, even if clearly nebulas , . But it did seem , judging just by the looks, that the line was an older design that might not be matching the pace of today's market leaders. glad to hear they have redesigned some things, because competition benefits the consumer, and nobody in their right mind would develop a new product without shooting for best in price class. and, of course , a new top in class competitor will eventually trigger other's to redesign, so everybody wins.

Hello Cheshire Audio: I have rega P3, replaced my Elys 2 (factory cartridge) with the ND3. when playing the first record I actually heard the belly of the cartridge rubbing against the record. I watched your video about raising the tone arm lifter. I've not got a key that small yet, not sure if that would have fixed the problem. I went back and again adjusted and fine tuned the tonearm balance and tracking pressure, which seems to have alleviated the issue, BUT it seem the cartridge is REALLY close to the surface of the record. I've played 3 or 4 other LP'S and the cartridge doesn't seem to be rubbing, I'm still concerned as to how close the cartridge belly is to the vinyl. Has anyone else had this problem? Any thoughts? Regards, Robert

Would it be reasonable to infer from your comment about the ND3 vs. the AT VM95ML that you would consider the ND3 superior to the VM95EN with the “nude” elliptical stylus?

The ability to change tips at home has kept me with a shure cart that is so old, I have to send away to Japan for replacement styli. Although the results are very good, some report that combo as better than original, I still have a tendency to trust OEM parts over aftermarket, and the rega mounting system would work on my arm so I m interested. it's just that cartridges have such a poor return on investment, I really don't want to buy one. . wrist watches with similar manufacturing challenges and many more parts don't have such abusive prices, unless you ask for it.

Hi Phil, another great informative video, I am hoping that the nd3 don’t pick up low hum when it bears end of the record play . Regards mark
@richardelliott83527 ай бұрын
hum when passing over the motor coils was the reason why I ditched direct drive , since a belt drive would eliminate that problem forever, no matter what cart I had. the resultant improved sound quality , notably in the bass and expanded soundstage , had me never looking back . my admittedly cost constrained, although still pricey, spring suspended belt drive table is my end of the line. If it ever becomes my system's weak link. I will have one heck of a system.

Hi rich, you got valid point , I only recently got back into hifi over a year or so, unfortunately I went back to rega deck as I had experience of having Rp2 many years ago , and the later rega decks had good reviews, I do also have a project primary e of which I first came back in have no hum issue, but surprised that rega did and the elyis 2 picking up hum, it’s low level and you pick this up on headphones, but is annoying, I recently bought at vm95sh and tested and hum is now a low level that’s negligible, and point I was making to phill hoping that the nd range don’t have this issue . I did a lot research before I bought my project and rega , but if I ever replace my project I will take on board what you said abs look at a direct drive deck in the future. Regards mark

Morning Phil, hope you are well. I've just received my nd3 from yourself and can say it's a significant improvement over the rega carbon it replaced on the rega p2. However we are getting some significant hum,which wasn't present before. Any ideas would be welcome. It's a rega Io amp by the way. Cheers

I was surprised I couldn't pick up too much more detail on Exact compared to Elys on RP3, but definitely more rhythm. Overall I couldn't justify the price gap. and I get more resonant low-mids from my AT VM95SH than both of them.. Hard to switch from Shibata.. It's not hard to imagine that after struggling with parts for Elys, Rega designed something different in the same price range.. nothing else to it..

A bit expensive, easily applies to all of their cartridges if you ask me. I suppose being a little out of step with market pricing works for them because of the simplicity of selecting an all rega system , plus the ease of alignment
