A very attractive daybed; the fusion of English and Italian style reminds me of pieces by Henry Thomas Peters of Genoa. I hope you keep these videos coming Cole. I like your easy presenting style. Your knowledge of period furniture, your passion for it and your occasional quirkiness are a nice mix.

Oh, I see. 😲 I always wondered how they laid on those daybeds. Your head doesn't rest on the arm. Or you could sit and lounge yourself over the arm on one end. The Egyptian idea of the power of the animal would be transferred to the user is an imaginative concept! That's a beautiful piece of art furniture, thank you for the history!

Did you keep your shoes on when you were laying on the daybed?

Must be so wonderful to own a piece like this and know their previous honors. Are you saying that this one was constructed in Italy. So beautifully work you did it to put it together to the present. Thank you for make that possible and the video too.

A real joy. Thank you. Another thing which helps to define regency furniture is that the carving was usually vey crisp, sharp and often deep. Particularly in good quality pieces.

Great video, has the back of the day been finished like the front?

Actually just the positive side of the daybed was finished (somewhat unfortunately- but it was thus made for use up against a wall)

It seems this is an "odd one out" video right?

Yes completely - the piece seems quality and eye catching enough although quite late in the traditional timeline - totally odd one out but fairly interesting I thought !

I love it's form but I loathe the wood choice of Mahony as I've always found red colored woods hideous, I prefer black walnut but my second choice is oak. In America we still have handmade furniture workshops, it never really went away here. The arts and crafts movement brought so may amazing pieces into existence, so I find your lack of respect for late 18th century furniture to be distressing. Especially as rope beds and Windsor chairs were still being hand made in America well into the second half of the century. Also, Art Nouveau and neo gothic were amazing art styles that challenged what furniture could be, they were also very distinct styles. I also like Greco Roman Revival as it can be very playful ;) and get away with it while other styles of that era... :)

If you see a lack of disrespect for late 19th c I must have failed to communicate a nuance. You might like the video of a monumental late 19th c neogothic dressoir on the channel - one of many such pieces I own. My point with late 19th is to differentiate art quality furniture from impertinent factory pieces... artless machine made products that comprise the majority of 19th c furniture.
