I read somewhere that Ferrari doesn't have a marketing budget. No commercials, no adverts. Nothing. Just the Formula One racing team. That is their marketing. But that is maybe because of where they come from. The founder, Enzo Ferrari, was a race driver, and then a race team owner, and a race car builder. And he needed money to be able to keep racing. So he started selling road cars, fast road cars, to people who could afford them. But he wasn't really interested in that part of the business, the road cars. That was just to bring money in for the racing. And rich people wanted to buy his road cars because of how successful his race cars were on the track.

Cleo's channel in general is a breath of fresh air. She's so good at explaining complex things in a simple way. I used to be very into F1, but it just got too boring somewhere in the early 2000s, I started dozing off mid-race on Sunday, even worse when timezones made it so that some races were on at 5am or something in Europe.

Formula 1 is really amazing, and it's a lot of engineering works that goes on behind the scenes. F1 companies like Mercedes,Red Bull and Mclaren helped developed quickly a lot of the machines in the fight against Covid. The wind screen in Indi racing cars were developed by Red Bull racing. These engineers can solve any problem very easily.

As a real F1-Fan i still love to watch the vids from Cleo. And if you want to dive in deeper you should take a look at her vid as she was invited to the Red Bull factory where all that magic is created. For her it was an absolut privileg to get there. Even the best and veteran reporters have not been there now. And in this video i love at most as she talks to one of the engineers and in the background you can hear a F1 engine screeming in the test stand. Because this was the first time the new self engineered Red Bull engine could be heared in a video outside Red Bull videos.

I am a Sports Car Club of America member. Used to be one of those folks (yes, we had women too) waving flags on the turns. Before and even *after* the half a minute I actually got to drive in the 1990s. I'm an older guy..if I had a dollar for every time I've said, "..no not like NASCAR..", I could buy a new BMW. F1 is 'the point of the spear' for my sport, but IMO, it's the greatest sport on the face of the Earth. Competition is a human desire, even though we're a social species. Making better tools when you can is *also* a human desire. Like the old TV ads for the candy said, "Two great tastes that taste great together." I love Cleo's video. My first F1 race (not as a driver, I was *never* that good! 🤣) was in Dallas, TX, 1984. I was just as stoked as Cleo in Miami. Made me smile the first time a friend sent me the link to it. I'm a Hamilton fan, too. His first Championship (he's won 7!) was for McLaren. As a perk, they let him drive an antique that was driven by one of our legends. when i finished school i was lost. then a revival from a old team brought me back to F1. I loved it so much i chose to do a Mechanical Engineering Degree...and spend on average 1 hour a day, everyday for the last 30 years...studying the sport, following the news, latest tech, new updates, changes in designs...etc I also race in karting and simulators ...F1 is not just a sport, its a mindset! to be the most creative and innovative, as far as the human mind can go, to harness the laws of the universe...to make a car go the fastest! to be methodical, calculated, precise, focused... its a quest for the extreme, the ultimate, the absolute edge, the quest for perfection...the pushing of my limits to become a better version of me!

The "nerd" explanation is funny and spot on. It basically started with some enthusiastic carmechanics trying to out-mechanic each other. And now it is incredibly high tech and all of these teams have some super smart people working for them. Also they don't just need the smart people to make the car, but also to make the machines they need to make the car. Since they make almost everything themselves and it has to be cutting edge they can't just buy parts from a parts dealer. So in fact this really is like NASA trying to build a spaceship.

What she didn't say in the video is that one F1 team has actually more doctors than in an average hospital. F1 is the test ground for new technologies. How many people? This can vary a bit but in general there can be 400 engineers per driver at the track and a supporting team of 400 people per driver at the factory, for real time monitoring where information flow between a car and supporting team is as fast as 3 milliseconds. What was left unsaid was that the cars are built not for the next season, but for the season after that.

As another thing, the logos on the livery of F1 cars is painted on, they are not stickers. It was found that the tiny edge of the sticker was a drag! F1 cars are at the enth degree of engineering. Despite what you may think when watching them crash. The bits that fly off are the springs, shocks, front wing and wheels and tyres etc, all designed to be part of the slowing down process to help keep the driver safe. Safety nowadays is paramount in F1 cars. They are built with a shell around the driver made from carbon fibre and kevlar to protect in a crash or roll over. Years back when there was hardly any safety, cars were a petrol bomb on wheels. Jackie Stewart (a famed F1 driver of Scottish descent) became the leader of the drivers when they refused to drive any of the cars! Safety was slowly instated and now is very strict. Drivers have to wear fireproof suits (watch Romain Grosjeans fire ball accident) to see why. There is a lot more in F1 than just driving around an oval track. Every track, in every country around the world that F1 races is different, so testing both the car and driver. The numbers watching F1 is equivalent to the super bowl every day!

The heads-up list not only had the place-positions and “seconds behind” but also included the charge left on each car’s battery pack. The drivers had to carefully plan passes and their push to the finish. The winner had 0.1% battery left😳

An engineer and huge F1 fan for years. One thing to know and accept is that the on-track racing isn’t always the greatest because of the disparity between the relative performance of the cars. Often one team is noticeably better than the others and they’ll dominate the drivers and constructors championship for a year or two; or more. We’re on the third year of a Red Bull dominance - only now are the other teams finally getting to the point of challenging Red Bull. You have to understand this ebbs and flows among the 3 or 4 bigger teams. Mercedes dominated for about 6-7 years before that; Red Bull for 4 year; Ferrari dominated in the early 2000’s; Williams dominated in the early 1990’s; McLaren dominated before that. The years of 2 or 3 teams and drivers truly battling for tie championships are limited - making them incredibly rare and exciting when they happen.

The car is more significant than the driver but to get the best car, you have to be the best driver. Of course, that is not a rule and at times the second best driver wins but.. usually the fastest cars are driven by the fastest drivers: the driver is an investment from the team and the best drivers can select the teams they drive for. Backmarkers will get juniors, pay drivers and occasional veteran champion on the twilight of their careers, midpack gets average drivers, best teams get the best drivers.

The Netflix show is an annual documentary called Drive to Survive. While it emphasizes the drama and sometimes bends the facts for a more satisfying story, it's still a great way to become familiar with the sport and everyone involved. One of the great things about F1 is that, compared to other sports, there aren't that many key people (drivers & managers) at a time to keep track of. Watching the show will introduce you to all of them, their stories and personalities. (If you want the full back story, watch the episodes in order starting with season 1.) It's very entertaining too.

If you seen an F1 movie but don't know which one I would like to offer the following suggestions as possible candidates: Rush (2013) With Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Bruhl as James Hunt and Niki Lauda. Grand Prix (1966) with James Garner and Yves Montand There are a few other "movies" but those are mainly documentaries and biopics. The above two are the only ones considered as "real movie" even though Rush depicts real life events. If these are not the one you saw, I highly recommend both. 1:43 I didn't know we even had Formula tracks here. - This year, three US based races are being held (well, two left) We just had the Miami GP, the US GP (Oct 20th) on COTA (Circuit of the Americas) in Austin and Las Vegas (Nov 24th). In the past races have been held in Indianapolis, a Las Vegas parking lot, Detroit, Long Beach, Phoenix, Riverside (Moreno Valley), Sebring and Watkins Glen. Speajing of the miami GP is was the one everybody got superhappy about because Max Verstappen only came second instead of the traditional first and it was Lando Norris his first win. As a Max Verstappen fan (Dutchman here) I was not even mad about it, I was so happy for Lando, one of the nicest kids on the grid. A tip, find him on twitch (landonorris) or youtube (Lando Norris and Quadrant) for some fun content. He and his team (online that would be Quadrant) do a lot of sim racing. Same goes for Max and his "Team Redline". tbh, despite Miami being a banger this year, most European based fans do not like Miami or Las Vegas as far as it comes to F1 (no shade on the actual cities intended) as they are way to "American" with the WWE Announcements and the whole circus around it. On a positive note though, Las Vegas first race last year after the parking lot debacle in the 80's was not as "bad" as we feared. It is funny she uses the Mercedes as example which has been horrible the past 3 years since the cost cap was introduced. Don't get me wrong, they are still one of the biggest teams and their drivers are big names. Especially Lewis, a 7 times World Drivers Champion, absolute icon and legend of the sports. If you want to know who to keep an eye on when watching it would be Lewis Hamilton (currently fairly easy to keep an eye on in his soapbox Merc), Fernando Alonsothe eternal rookie and gigachad. Two times world champion and on the grid for over 20 years. And of course Max Verstappen, current raigning 3 times WDC who has been smashing 20, 40 and 50 year old standing records the past three years. Fun to watch is also Ferrari with it's drivers Sainz and Leclerc. Ferrari has been a bit of a meme the past few years. Horrible strategies, horrible pitcrew and to the point the drivers themselves actually started making their own strategies that proved to be better than those from the pitwll. You see a Ferrari fan/driver and they ask you something just tell them "we are checking". They either will be actually lauging out loud (fun fact, lol is the actual Dutch word for fun) or they will be traumatised for at least a week. I should stop writing, I have all this and we are only 7 minutes in..... IF I see anything I will make a reply comment to this one.

The aero is so weird, because you might think it's all about slick airflows i.e. laminar flows without those drag-inducing turbulences and pushing the air upwards with wings and then you hear they're putting air under the car for Venturi effect i.e. ground effect and intentionally creating vortices at many places in order to separate airflows and use those to guide air where it's needed and block it from flowing in undesirable ways.

Years ago the US grand prix was run at Watkins Glen. If you drive a modern car you have F1 to thank for some of the technology you have onboard.

Love the video, and welcome to the world of Formula 1. It's the greatest sport in the world. 140 million is a lot, but back in the mid 00s, some teams were spending upwards of 600 million pounds per year. If you really get the F1 bug, it's worth looking at the history of the sport. It's fascinating, sometimes shocking, and extremely interesting. Enjoy ❤

Guys, my fave F1 racer in Sir Lewis Hamilton, British! Sir Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton MBE Honourable England (born 7 January 1985) is a British racing driver competing in Formula One, driving for Mercedes. Hamilton has won a joint-record 7 Formula One World Drivers' Championship titles (tied with Michael Schumacher), and holds the records for most wins (104), pole positions (104), and podium finishes (200), among others. Lewis Hamilton has an estimated net worth of about $300 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. The 39-year-old race car driver was among the highest-paid athletes in the world in 2023 and earned $55 million in salary for the year, according to Forbes. He is also a very kind, respectful humble gentleman and a fine example of being black and extremely successful! He drives for Mercedes, Silver Arrow, Number 44, and SUPER HOT! Stay fit and well brother. You did well in Hungary clocking your 200th Podium in 3rd place.👍🎉🌟👏🚀

On costs, unlike other races, F1 travels the world. That means, the whole teams, workshops, offices and hundreds of people working for one team ALL have to be moved to the next race 1/2 way across the world. The logistics are almost insuperable. Everything has to arrive 3 days before the race, has to be erected, wired up connected electronically etc and get the cars ready. All this costs a fortune, thats where the costs come in..

In Hamburg, Germany in the Miniatur Wunder Land (Miniature Wonder Land) they have recreated the Monaco F1 Grand Prix race track in the scale of 1:87 where 14 race cars compeat in races which are computer controlled... they needed 14 years to build it with costs of more than 4 million euros. It was officialy opened in April 2024.

The aspect of f1 that blew my mind is how every year the FIA gives the teams regulations on how big something can be, how much the car must weight, and a 📖 stack of other things the teams have to design within. BUT, some of these regulations are to screw with the teams and the car’s speed. Like the tyres. There is one supplier for everyone. And every driver must pit a minimum of once a race to change tyres. To make life even more difficult for the drivers, the tyres are manufactured purposefully to degrade within 10-30 laps. They could make the tyres last longer, but what fun would that be? 🤣 you will never max out on speed because regulations will change in order for teams to be forced to remake their cars every year.

I love formula 1. Besides Ferrari being a founding titan of motor sport and making cool(est?) cars, legendary driver Lewis Hamilton is said to be leaving Mercedes Benz for Ferrari partly because the new management at Mercedes severely cut Hamilton's interface and input to design tweaks and improvements from one car to the next. When he left for Ferrari, he took his engineer with him.
