Regenerative Two-Tube Receiver for 40 Meters on the air. Listen to the simple home constructed radio handle CW, SSB and Digital signals in the modern 7 MHz Band. The radio uses a 6SK7 and a 6J5 and is representative of the classic Novice Special type of the late 30's thru the 1950's. This was the beginners receiver of that era, but this one is built for a single band with attention to stability.

I like it. As a kid I had a Hallicrafters SX-25 I listened to nonstop. When I was about 14 I was asked to help a 10 yo boy build a 2 tube regen kit. When it squealed I thought I had done something wrong in the construction because I didn't know what a regen rig was. For the next 15 years I thought I had failed. Then I learned what 'regeneration' meant.

Great video. With a regen Rx you actually get to feel the control over the spectrum unlike modern receivers with multi conversion noise generating devices in them. All attempts to emulate that with sdr radios have become far too technology intense resulting in high cost and poor reliability with the expensive repair that goes along with it. No wonder the Germans were still using regens in WW2. All that was necessary was a savvy operator, something that is lacking in Amateur Radio CBers these days.

I use a low 40M dipole, coax fed as well as a 100 ft long wire with a tuner. Both work very well on this receiver.

Nice set. The first radio I ever built was a regen when I was 12. I had a lot of fun with it. I've built a few since. They work best with an untuned antenna buffer stage and attenuator. Yours is a fine specimen! 73 Alan G0KMC

I have a question, sir: are the tubes still in production? Here, in Brazil, I don't know where to buy them. Only imported items and paying a lot of taxes. Thanks. Great video, as always.

The antenna coupling is a Faraday shielded swinging link on the cold side of the coil.

Weirdness Talk - yes! and strangely his was not planned - it simply was on the air and I intercepted it with the radio thus providing color to an otherwise pretty dry video!

Nice design MIKROWAVE!The sound is pretty clear!I want to ask you how is the antenna coupling achieved here?is it a variable capacitor?

Less parts.equal less loss, less power consumption. A good pair of Baldwin's best audio kv4li

The Baldwins are simply magical. Too much audio level for this! Even those old R2 military phones come off your head with a strong signal on the Paraset with no audio gain control.

@@MIKROWAVE1 yes sir. Army phones were placed on head then advanced to my temple to make control easier. We followed clandestine troops and every ounce counted. that is to say a Regen/xtal controled rig weighed little.even when barely having a colpits osc with a one transistor power amp. We were the life line. Less parts easy fix .tks

i made a receiver simmilar to yours. with 6j1p,russian pentodes and a ECL82 audio amplifier with negative feedback...the AM stations come lowd and clear but when i get on ssb stations it seems like they are not well demodulated..i can hear them..but i can't understand what they say...like a verry narrow ssb crystal filter..can you help me?
