Aside from collectors who only care about official products, people are better off with the fan translation anyway. The official release will likely be heavily censored in comparison. Certain scenes may have their context changed entirely. And the soundtrack is its own can of worms...

The thing is it's a double edge sword either if they did give us a official english translation they will change it and people will still complain about it and say it's not the way the creator wanted it to be. Plus there somethings in that game that us the west consider inappropriate and outdated and if they did do a remake or whatever they will censor the hell out of it and still people will bitch and complain and blame Nintendo for it so is it worth the headache in the end. Also from a business standpoint does Earthbound even sell because it to me it's a very quirky niche Turn base RPG with a cult following and that's it would half the people asking for Mother 3 buy it day one then ( to support it) because this happens a lot with game nowadays and no wonder they don't get a sequel.

That's the conclusion I came to as well, the music is such a sticking point that in order to get it over here you would have to redo the entire soundtrack with new music and at that point you might as well fully remake the game. I could see them use the same visual art style as the Links Awakening remake we got a while back as that kinda fits the original game aesthetic pretty well. I know some purists wouldn't be happy about the change in music but if that's what it takes to get an english version of the game then so be it. Maybe bring in Toby Fox to make the new music since a lot of his stuff from undertale evoked that old school gaming vibe.

It's Shigesato Itoi, not the other way around. Shigesato is the given name, Itoi is the family name. They get inverted in the Japanese language but that's the correct way to say his name in English.

Nintendo Ninjas let the fan translation slide... take advantage of that if you really want to experience Mother 3. In "Beginnings" case, the translation was already finished back in the 90's, they just didn't release it then. So they had to do very little to bring that to the eShop at the time. MOTHER 3 doesn't have that luxury. Yeah there's the fan-translation, but I seriously doubt Nintendo would "accept that gift" and use it. (Probably due to a mix of "pride" and "legal" reasons.)

Is it time for mother 3 to be localized? No because it has a lot controversial stuff including the Magypsies and darker themes of bereavement and other stuff I learned from Moon channel’s video. While I agree Itoi is not to blame for this, REGGIE certainly is. He was NOA President and he did a lot of great things. But part of that legacy is NOT localizing Mother 3 despite massive fan support for it. There was plenty of shovelware that made it onto Nintendo console-- you're telling me 5 of those couldn't have been dropped for a staple game Nintendo owners were asking for for YEARS, and the localization work has already been done?

Honestly at this point Nintendo is stuck publishing a Mother 3 remake. But I'm not hoping for it anytime soon due to how Nintendo makes their business decisions. It just feels like we're talking to walls. However Mr. Itoi is right, You have to contact the Japanese CEOs of Nintendo to have it sold around in the west rather than just being emulated. Sadly its just already hard to get valuable info to their CEOs anyways and theres still a chance of rejection to sell Mother 3 in the west.

They even tried to release mother 3 sound track here digitally only to to have to pull it off after months. It will not gonna happen.
