How does an employee WALKOUT with someone else’s stolen books?? There I no oversight or security at CGC I am convinced. What a shame.
@johnnydropkicks11 ай бұрын
I used to work at Guitar Center and a guy walked out, passed the security guy by the door, and into the parking lot before we noticed a guitar was missing. He got caught hiding attempting to steal a $5000 guitar that was hidden in his pants. A guitar… in his pants. My point being, some people will figure out how to steal things when there’s a decent amount of money involved. We didn’t even notice that a guy hid a guitar in his pants and walked from the back of the store to the front and past security. He was only caught because we noticed that the guitar was missing. With that being said, I, in no way, condone this activity and the onus does fall on CGC in this situation. Also, the fact that they knew for a while about this and didn’t make any attempt to inform the comic community to about this seller says a lot about them. For a while, I knew that there was a reason that CGC, out of nowhere and with no explanation, started to scan images of the books that they graded. No I know what that reason was.

This is not as bad as the previous issue. Internal controls are created to aid in detecting and preventing fraud within a company. However; there are NO internal controls in any company that can prevent fraud perpetrated via collusion at multiple levels within a company. Again this shit happens especially in a company that was forced to expand rapidly during covid to keep up with demand. In that fact, the HR process is likely fine unless they failed to pull criminal record/background checks and even then, if they had never perpetrated fraud or any other type of crime previously, that process would not be able to prevent this issue. The fact that this is being settled publicly is showing that CGC has integrity and cares about their business. I wouldn't look into this as much as the failure within the reholdering process which definitely was due to a flaw in internal controls. It does suck to air out all the dirty laundry at once though.

I suggested something that I thought could happen when the first CGC scandal hit... People said it would never happen, but I think it could. Firstly, EBAY does not permit counterfeit goods. EBAY could decide to prohibit the sale of CGC slabs. They'd be able to do this across their platform with a few keystrokes by not permitting CGC to appear in listings... That would put an end to this problem immediately, and CGC would be out of business.

Dunno. The word "counterfeit" doesn't fit... but EBAY is historically very proactive about protecting the perceived integrity of what's sold on their platform. They're a huge company, and this is a complex situation, that one could argue implies that every CGC case (especially high-value silver and bronze) has at least the potential to be fraudulent or be a stolen good. I don't enjoy hearing that CGC has more scandals but I do appreciate that you took the time to explain to us what this one is about. Is this just the beginning of more scandals to come? I'll say again that I like slabbed books but this hurts the community and CGC needs to discard their current inventory of slabs and replace them with a more tamper-proof slab that many others have recommended. If throwing out the slabs is an issue then lower grading prices to an extreme level to get rid of these old slabs until they are gone, then raise the prices to accommodate the cost of better slabs. Sheesh, higher end comics like Incredible Hulk #181 should never be encased in a slab that someone would use to slab Darkhawk #1. Think about it, there are Action Comics #1 encased in the same slab as any other comic book. As for the sad points of this latest scandal there are many things that CGC can do to prevent insider shenanigans like the ones this couple perpetrated. But my main concern is the higher-ups not being more transparent on the inside goings on at this company. As an aside, I just received a notice of CGC expanding into the Japanese market and opening an office there to accept submissions. What a time to do this, huh?

@@RegieCollects I’m familiar enough with marketing and PR relations that sometimes to fix a bad business, bad appearances or just to have a new unbiased restart companies need to take its name and policies around to the bad the they woodshed put it down and and start fresh with changes made.. Sometimes just a new paint job and name brings back confidence in a company on hard times

REGIE, I'm confused CGC did grading on 350 comic books that were Non-Legit or Not Real comic books? or what did CGC do the Reholding of these 350 comic books?

In my opinion, these scandals will likely lead to a greater push for grading standardization via an AI tool.

Don't these allegations validate some of the customers complaints and doubts over the last couple of years ? So the community was right , in some cases. CGC was wrong and jumped the gun with some of their responses and answers to the community, through ignorance or plain ol negligence.

And really...how deep does this scandal go? It seems like this couple began the scam right away once hired by CGC. Either they are extremely smart and identified a gap in CGC's protocols and procedures, or they are just that brazen. Whatever the case, this is a hugely bad look for CGC even if they took action. If the community won't turn to CBCS as a viable option at this point, then it never will, and CBCS may as well call it quits. It's early in this second scandal, but if I had to guess, if the community was to turn away from CGC, the preferred 2nd option would be to keep books raw until CGC got its house in order. The next option would be to keep sending to CGC and hope for the best. The 3rd option would be to keep books raw and walk away from grading. The 4th option would be CBCS. That's not good. But again, it's early...and those are my early impressions. The ball is in our court. If we want better competition and better options for grading, then we have to put our money where our mouth is. And thanks for taking time out for this, Regie. As soon as I started watching I said - "now there's a working man!" 😂😂
