A stable belt is a striped coloured belt worn at times by the armed forces of the United Kingdom, other Commonwealth countries, and a few other countries including Denmark, Brazil and Lebanon. The stripes vary by regiment and corps, identifying the wearer's unit. In Brazil and Lebanon they are known as gymnastic belts.
The term "stable belt" originates from when UK cavalrymen would place the surcingle around the waist when cleaning the stables and tending to their horses. In the 1950s they spread to all branches of the armed forces, adding a splash of colour and individuality to the drab khaki working uniforms. Initially they were resisted by many senior officers, who saw them as too individualistic, but they soon became accepted throughout the UK forces, and spread to the forces of a number of other countries. The "gymnastic belt" of some countries has a similar appearance and purpose, with a name reflecting its origin in physical training equipment. Sword belts of similar appearance are used on ceremonial occasions by some military forces.

Hi Mat, keep the new guys informed with all the traditions. It’s like when you join your Regiment or Corps, you put on your best bib and tucker, the RSM marches you in front of the Boss (Commanding Officer), you are introduced and you touch your Regimental Colours. Enlistment commenced, just 22 years to completion. Old traditions and bugle calls once learned never forgotten. Cheers mate. Harera

It's hard to get the Canadian government to pay for anything military related. Forget pride via a belt. Pride in new weaponry/assets.

Epic. It would be awesome if the Canadian Army and other armies of the Empire focused more on bringing back pride in our regiments, histories and culture.

Hey Matt. I'm surprised you haven't made a video yet on the new Canadian Army CADPAT Multi-Terrain (MT) Modernized Combat Uniform (MCU) aka the MTP/Multicam CADPAT which started to roll out Feb 2024. Roll out process to take 24 months.

I’m a civilian, but I have family who has served in the military. On my mom’s side of the family… my Papa(my great grandfather) US Marine(he enlisted in late 1945 but due to the use of Little Boy and Fat Man, he wasn’t deployed.), my Granddaddy(grandfather) US Marine(he enlisted in 1965, but due to his father(my Papa) having a stroke, he was transferred over to the Marine Reserve and was a Marine MP so that way he was able to close to home to help his mother(my Great Grandmother) take care of his father.), My Uncle is US Marine he enlisted just after the end of Desert Storm in 1991. And My other Uncle was US Army. On my dad’s side of the family… Colonial Army(Revolutionary War), Confederate States Army(Company H of the 2nd Florida Cavalry Regiment) And my immediate family my brother is a US Marine But I also learned that through my Grandmother(my mom’s mother), I’m the eleventh great grandson(or great great grandson) of Myles Standish who was the hired military advisor for the Plymouth Colony. Now I only been told this by family, I still want to do a genealogy to see exactly who I’m related too and where my family is from.

Sgt Matsimus: Excellent video! I will contact Bespoke Law Leather to order a Military Police belt - Scarlet in colour. Even though I am retired, I can still wear this to show off my Corps/Regimental pride. Regards, D.A. 100% agreed…in the Watch we still wear them in our orders of dress… However not in CADPAT…this I feel and have been saying for years needs to change…the shirts need to be tucked in so it’s showing ALL the time…then a coat over top…something better than an IceJacket.

Is that the army tradition? Looks cool. We don't have anything like it in the middle-eastern Europe. Jealous.

That is partly historical. Some countries have been forced to amalgamate and then split up EG Croatia etc. Traditions like this do not get the chance to get started and keep going under those conditions. England has had these traditions since the Napoleonic era at least. Thankfully Napoleon did not cause as many problems in eastern Europe as he did in Russia through to Spain.

Interesting. I've seen an RCLS stable belt for sale on the CANEX website ( not sure who makes them) so I'm assuming the CoC is allowing us to wear them.

All our Corps and Regiments still have their own stable belts still in the NZ Army, great if you haven’t got a gut and wear your uniform with pride, absolutely terrible looking when worn with a gut with the front folded in half, I wouldn’t recommend them, shirts out is a much more modern practical uniform.

The CAF can’t even feed or house their troops properly…but hey! Lets look at Regimental Belts that serve little or no operational purpose!

And that’s my fault is it?…. Do I control the budget?…. Nope. Should I join you in complaining? Will that help? Nope. Could i give those who still have some hope something to have as an option to make them at least try feel a little more proud of the hundreds of years of regimental history and heritage…. Yep. Jog on fella. You’re rhetoric means nothing to me lol
@addykochain2362
@addykochain2362 Ай бұрын
Complaining? I was stating a fact. The CAF is in a terrible state since the Decade of Darkness. I am simply voicing my opinion of my dissatisfaction of the present state if our military. I realize you are in the Primary Reserves and it has in recent years become a focal point on your channel. I also appreciate your enthusiasm and have been watching your informative equipment videos years prior. With that being said - we all have to realistically understand that you may not be able to give the most accurate or private opinion on certain matters. Furthermore it is more than likely you had to receive some sort of authorization from higher up in order to you post your CAF training footage and use of their equipment in your videos regarding your service - as a result you have been given boundaries and rules to follow. For your information - I handed in my uniform when this government stated that wounded veterans were asking for “More than we can give…” Many of my closet friends are wounded veterans who have been terribly treated despite their sacrifices. So maybe it’s time we are more honest on what’s going on within the CAF and start a dialog about it to start correcting it. Not acknowledging it will not improve anything. It may actually be a productive thing that recruitment numbers are low and that the public is starting to wake up to the state of our military - perhaps this will finally be the precedent for Canadians to wake up and motivate some political will and pressure to give the CAF the attention and resources it needs. The CAF has “soldered on” with too little for too long and things have not improved and have actually worsened. I preferred when your videos from before you enlisted in the CAF Primary Reserve and were a excellent and informative source on military equipment and an enjoyable watch… Now it feels like you’ve become an indirect recruiting asset… Will you do a video on some of my friends who served and were severely wounded with life altering injuries and not looked after by Veterans Affairs? With your platform, skills and target audience you could help shed light on the matter to a large base audience and potentially have a positive desired effect and invoke change that would help many. Or we can make cheerful videos on regimental belts… You are entitled to your opinion and thoughts of priorities - I am entitled to mine. That about sums it up. Thanks.

Eh, colourful crap that a lid/mong (doesn't require for work) would wear to stand out on their everyday uniform. Stick to issued kit and get approval for non issue kit that you actually need to work better, not some bright money dispensing tool belt. Sorry Matt, I usually like your video content

@@_Matsimus_ It appears that you do care if people like your content or not, thus you are bothering to give your time to this comment. As to whether I am sorry/care, I do care and am sorry. I've been educated and entertained by your videos/livestreams over the years, such as your videos about the super tucano and having rubber tracks on tanks. As to why I am sorry, it is because this video is just a product placement for soldiers and officers that do not know what to do with their money, instead of the usual educational/commentary video on X topic. It comes off as you using your viewers as just customers for yourself and/or Bespoke. I get it, money talks, I thought you were just in the business of being an entertainer that provides the value of teaching people about planes/tank/ships and overall commentary on youtube, not some salesmen
