Only Regina can get me to listen to a song with 'sugar daddy' repeating in the chorus
@eaterdrinker0002 жыл бұрын
Ah, a perfect complement to St. Vincent's "Sugarboy" from 2017. May Annie Erin and Regina Ilyinichna perform together in a future Grammys as Clark and Lipa did in 2019. Prost!

Regina really articulates the plights of women well her! The line of there's no seat at the table for you, so just find a lap to sit on, all too true about how women are expected to get things in their careers and lives 😔

This track has a bit of cosmic/karmic irony feel to me. Especially appreciated the line about not confusing sugar with love. What a beautiful piece of songwriting, and that hook/chorus just kicks. I feel like Spektor really let her hair down on this album and had fun making it. Here, her voice serves as the ever present observer of human life. To me, this song speaks to the fantasy of the financially helpful, albeit temporary, story of a quid pro quo dater. Or a sugar baby. It looks like she becomes maligned or resentful or her benefactor, and is rebelling from the conservative nature of her mother while Seeking the love she is missing "on the street".

All of Regina's songs are just so completely human. Sometimes it hurts just how real they are.

Hello! I couldn´t find a comment saying what I am about to write, if somebody did, my apologies. I like Regina and her unique style but there is a "Nirvana- Oh me" rythm copied in here.... and Nirvana was actually doing a cover of the Meat Puppets... listen to it and tell me what you think..... I immediately started humming and remembered I had listened to that tune before
@sindwakanyimba47112 жыл бұрын
😳 I listened to it. It has the same tune as this song.
@CraigMaxwell-gz3vw3 ай бұрын
I just listened to the Nirvana song and 5 seconds in I said yup, same tune. Doesn’t change how I feel about Regina’s version though (both this and Nirvana’s cover are a lot better than the Meat Puppets original)

I hate to say it but...I feel like the world is filled with much more sweet these years than salt, and boy do I miss all those sweat and tears. I hate all the rotting teeth. In a world of salt Of sweat and tears Sometimes you need a little sugar To get through the years

i think you hope the term is dead, but it surely is not. it is as strong as ever, and many women are seeking it. Perhaps you want her to be politically correct, but understand that is about you. art describes life, whether it passes your desired tests or not. she is using it on her own terms. “Just don’t go confusing Sugar with love” “What I couldn’t get at home I got in the streets”. This is moving real life stuff, she is not here to fulfill your desired politic. Feel free to get over yourself and experience life as it is, not what you believe it should be. Idealism is killing the world.
