+Travis Waluyo I don't know about the video, but that doesn't line up with the lyrics at all. www.streetdirectory.com/lyricadvisor/song/wlwffw/ne_me_quitte_pas/ The first paragraph talks about Bowery, a street in NYC known for being dangerous/homeless. It ends by saying "if you are a deity please don't go" which I think means that people there are looking for a deity/hope. The second paragraph talks about Lexington, a street in NYC known for older people. It ends by saying "if you are the ghost of Christmas place wont you stay the night". This is in reference to them wanting to keep their youth. I'm not sure about the Bronx paragraph, but I think that she's saying that the children there want a friend. The last one is about her missing NYC because she was on vacation to paris maybe.

I kind of see this song about pleading her sense of childhood and youth not to "leave" - hence why she's doing all the crazy, kind of childish things in the video. The old man at the end represents adulthood and responsibilities suppressing the playfulness and random joys of being a kid.

CHP This is interesting, because the thing about "Ghost of Christmas past" could link with the Scrooge/wealthy thing - whereas I was imagining "Christmas past" to be a nostalgic reference to childhood Christmases. So it'd fit both interpretations! This is what I love about lots of Regina's songs, they're so open to interpretation.

2013 was a pretty bad year for me, I was on sick leave and felt depressed and things didn't go too well in any way. Then in July I went to a festival for one day, checked the program in advance to be a bit updated on the artists playing that day. That's how I discovered Regina. Never could I think I'd get myself a new idol at the age of 43. But now I have two records, and here i sit listening to this song with a dumb happy smile on my face. Thank you gorgeous talented lady!

So I'm doing allright despite the current unrest in the world. It's not all thanks to Regina Spektor that I got out of my situation back then, but she definitely had a role to play.
