A video tribute to Ms. REGINE VELASQUEZ was produced by the team of Sa Linggo NApo Sila to promote her first major concert at the Folk Arts Theater on July 14, 1990 - Narito Ako. Uncontrollable tears of joy were shed by Regine especially when her mother sang Kung Maibabalik Ko Lang. Mr. David Celdran made a surprising appearance, eliciting giggles from a blushing Regine!

It was really after she won the Asia Pacific Singing Contest when her career started to take off to stardom. There was no stopping her at that point. Ibang level kasi ang pagka-panalo nya sa contest na yon. Naging signature song nya ang And I Am Telling You at sya talaga ang nag introduce ng song na yon sa mga pinoy. Nakakatindig balahibo din ang rendition nya ng You’ll Never Walk Alone. I think it was in those two songs na unang nagpakita ng kakaibang level ng taas, power, at galing nya sa pagkanta. Her belting ability at that time was unparalleled and really shocked the OPM industry. Lagi namin syang pinag-uusapan dati sa school, at laging inaabangan ang mga performances at bagong album nya. Sayang at wala pang internet noon 😂

Sabi na nga ba maestro, parang ikaw yung kasama sa picture ni regine sa asia pacific singing contest. Good song choice po! Somehow miski na hindi pang gospel ang boses ni regine, unlike ni jennifer holiday, bumagay naman sa kanya yung song. Im curious to know lang din po kung may influence po ba kayo sa pano ang atake at interpretation nya sa song, because one would think these are all big emotions for a 19 year old kid.

@@wanerck We had piano rehearsals. It was very easy to coach her on how to attack the song because she was already very vocally stable and so musically adept. She listened to my suggestions. She was very teachable that's why I love her so much. I made her sing the three notes of "love" before the last "me" to make it her own version. I also made her do the glissando (slide) in "You'll Never Walk Alone".

This competition was two months after I won the 1989 ABU Golden Kite World Song Festival in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with Ivy Violan.

Good day! Kenneth Peralta's name was not flashed. He was my classmate in our DLSU freshman block section. Now, it's very much easier to promote a concert. This was a true breakthrough for Regine. And I met both her parents in 2003. It was touching. I also wish that she married David Celdran. God bless!
