Recorded from VHS, just for sharing how Regine Velasquez competed and won her very first International Contest. This is an excerpt after the first entries from different cities in Asia Pacific. The first outfits of Regine Velasquez (white) were displayed in The Music Museum. The 2nd (black) wore by Regine in their show with Kuh Ledesma, Martin Nievera, Gary Valenciano and Martin Nievera.

I just watched this for the first time and how my admiration for Ms Regine became complete. I even felt nervous when she was called 4th among 5 finalists. Even doubted she wud win it. Finally watching her belt out "you'll never walk alone" with her dynamics and incredible high octave, I began to sense that she would beat the others by a "mile". I didn't try to find out the winner at once but chose to watch this instead. Now I totally agree that she indeed is Asia's "Songbird".

I admired her already when I first saw and heard her sing as a contestant in ANG BAGONG KAMPEON a singing contest on GMA7 hosted by miss Pilita Corales ang the late Mr Bert "tawa" Marcelo in 1980s. When she sung Daan ako ngkamali, I myself predicted her to be a superstar. She won that night and became the champion for 8 straight weeks and and became the grand champion. The rest is history.

No Pilita Corrales was the first Filipina who won an international singing contest in the Second Tokyo International Festival besting even Hollywoid singers like Olivia Newton John and Paul Williams. A street named after PILITA also in Australia because she was the first foreign singer who topped the billboard there and who had a musical television there named Melbourne Tonight.
