i think the autotune is a wonderful artistic choice for this song. personally i think the use of autotune in specific portions of the lyrics adds to the overall impact, it draws the attention to the lines "won't you stay alive (cont)..." which are often the lyrics that a strong majority of this fanbase resonate with. plus the instrumentals in the background are sick and the autotune almost makes his voice blend in as if it were a synthesizer ya know? big fan of this version, regional at best is their best album imo.

This version isn't much different from the newer one, it's not bad at all. Although I'm so glad he got rid of the autotune for this one and for trees, it's so much better without. But the raw vocals sound so emotional and that's what I live about this version. I think both versions are great

I agree. I like the autotune vocals, but unless I've misunderstood the meaning of this song, I don't think sounding incredibly synthetic while saying "I will make you believe you are lovely" is particularly helpful. It works a lot better when you can hear Tyler's actual voice.

That and the glitching vocals on RAB Ode To Sleep make for versions i like just as much or better than the newer versions. There’s a mashup of 2011 and 2013 ode to sleep somewhere on youtube that i love, best of both worlds

Same. The Vessel bonus track version plays things too safe for me, I always feel like I want to listen to this version instead when I listen to the Vessel version. This song and RAB as a whole captures the band’s live sound better than any of their other albums imo, and so the live sound and a lot of the charm is lost in the Vessel version to me. Still good, but i’ll always prefer this one :)

The autotune is only on the choruses, and it was a stylistic choice, not meant to mask Tyler’s voice or anything. I’m glad for people that like the more accessible Vessel bonus track version better, but for me that version plays it too safe and imo loses some of the charm from this version. This will always be my preferred version of this song :)
