You don’t need to account for silicone, the glass should be pressed firmly together
@basilbiscuit9817 Жыл бұрын
Isn't it worth making a V shaped jig (like a saw horse) to hold the glass sides.? When you place the glass in the V jig they should sit together in the bottom of the V without you holding them until they are set.glued. If you make the jig V more than 90degs you can shim up the glass plates until they are perfectly 90 degs. this seems a better technique esp if you are on your own.

Is there a solution for crafting a large, say 40 gallon tank with a drain in the bottom? I have a Red Eared Slider, and she's very messy. I need to give her fresh water about every 6-7 days, but using a sump pump and garden hose is a hassle. I'd much rather cut open a drain valve and let gravity do the work. I envisioned a custom built wooden cabinet to conceal the plumbing.

Hey question what size dimensions if i want to put together a 55 gallon acrylic or glass tank for my 🐢?....😕😕😕
@CountTrader3 жыл бұрын
Awesome video! I’d love to make my own aquarium. Is there a formula or an online calculator to figure how thick the glass needs to be vs how many gallons it holds or how long a side of the tank could be? For instance, obviously you’d need something thicker than 3/16” if one side of the tank is 8’ long and it’s holding back 300 gallons of water. Also, would 100% silicone alone be the only adhesive needed for larger tanks? I’m curious if tank builders use any kind of epoxy or anything else other than silicone. Sorry if these questions have already been answered, I didn’t scroll through all of the comments.
@CountTrader3 жыл бұрын
I’m a carpenter and I assume there’s some calculations needed similar to calculating a building’s floor joist size. For a joist (lumber that holds up your floor) you have to factor in how long of a span it has and also the load or amount of weight on the floor. For a tank I assume you have to factor in the surface area of a side and calculate the amount of pressure on the glass based on the weight and depth of the water. I’d like to build a large tank, but I definitely don’t wanna risk 100+ gallons of water flooding my living room cause the glass or silicone wasn’t strong enough.
@darthanubis42043 жыл бұрын
@@CountTrader I imagine you would need to find the area of each pane and the volume of the tank so you can calculate the pressure given 1 gallon is 8lbs. Or its deeper than that idk
